I am playing a D-10 MSA of 1970's vintage. Lately, each time I go to play the E9 neck, the lever that raises strings 4 and 8 from E to F produces a sharp note. Today, it was all the way up to G. Meanwhile, the E's stay in tune when the lever isn't pressed. I have continually been loosening the strings, but today the nut on the 8th string was backed off so far it fell off. I'd sure appreciate any assistance. Thanks.

You need to adjust the knee lever stop that is raising the E's. It is allowing the knee lever to pull too far. If you want to call me I'll talk you through the process.
