Hey there is a nice article in the Jan 2010 issue of "Vintage Guitar" mag on classic Ric' lap steels.
The (Way) Back Beat
The Plastic Fantastic Electro Spanish
By Peter S. Kohman
'Thought some might enjoy it.
It is on the rack at Barnes & Noble (a very large mag compared to most).
[Allow me to apologize in advance for the cover of this issue! ] |

It was a welcome surprise to stumble upon the Rick article. Not often you find any guitar rags taking on steels, let alone doing a fairly in depth article w/decent pix. |

It's only out of extreme pride that I mention that a few of the instruments pictured belong to me, including the wood-necked instrument. Maybe it's of less interest here as it's meant to be played Spanish... although you tend to find a lot of the round neck models set up for steel anyways. Once the bakelite necks start warping, that's all they're good for!
I believe next month is a continuation of this feature too. |
