Erv, Paul's used the Boogie for several years unless he's changed recently. Mike Johnson uses one too.

I have a Mesa Boogie Studio Pre. It's got gain and really rips. But of course, it's getting old and needs to be rebuilt like all the old stuff eventually does. From what I've read here, I think a Revelation would probably be a better choice.
I heard that the clean side of the Boogie Studio Pre is a near copy of a twin reverb circuit. Anybody know for sure?

I have Brad's SMS classic preamp. How would that preamp work with the TC furlong split? Or would I need the Revelation for the TC split? Could somebody send me a PM and let me know what the TC Furlong Split would cost me please? I emailed him, but not sure when I'll hear from him, may stay real busy.

I've had my TC Furlong split 12 for 3 months now.
I am absolutely amazed at this amp. I have never been able to dial in a setting I like at home then go out and play a gig and not have to change settings. Any of my Peavey amps I've had would literally disappear in a loud band mix doing that. Not so with the TC Split. I only have one and use a Tonic with it. The effects are so clean and not muddy (great mid range). I don't know why band people to the side can still hear me with a closed back amp but they can! Just part of the magic of this amp. Very warm yet crisp. I just have to be careful because everything played is heard perfectly clear.
