Found a brand new set[2] still in crispy new looking 60's red/black RCA USA boxes... I have never seen anyone use these, but have read they are excellent,,, Have I struck gold here, and should I decide which of my old Fender amps gets priviledged to wear these??

I hear they are common to this day, so why aren't more of them in use??.. Help me out here old time tube guys.. I know very little about these tubes... bob

Caution. A 6L6 has different specs than a 6L6GC. It has a max plate voltage of 360 volts and a 19 watt maximum plate dissipation.

Leo used them in teh tweed era amps with a plate voltage of around 395 (lie my 5D6 Bassman clone). However I chose to use the 6L6GC with a max plate voltage of 500 volts and a 30 watt maximum plate dissipation.

Most metal can tubes I have used are usually microphonic as well.

Metal tubes are also to blame for some kinds of music. Do they weigh much? Over a certain amount and they can be considered heavy metal and should then be immediately thrown out.

Just kidding.

Ken is quite right in ratings.

Funny thing, Keith Richards of all people said he could hear a difference in which type of glass envelope tubes he used. The old shouldered ones look the coolest but I don't know if I've seen a 6L6GC in that shape. GA's and G's and plain 6L6's for sure.

Alot of metal tubes were military spec, too. Bad thing about them is that they don't glow.

For what it's worth,I found one in my junk box and put it on e-bay with a start at $2.99 plus shipping and sold it to a guy in Kansas..And it looked dirty and scuffed.
