Gene, I hope you're not regretting joining the Forum!
It's been an accepted "truism" here till now that "Sho-Bud serial numbers make no sense, i.e. mean nothing", so all us Sho-Bud owners who've been having to accept never knowing the birth dates of our Buds kind of stampeded when you raised your head!
If you have lists, maybe you could find some way to post them, so people could look up their guitars for themselves, saving you the "wear and tear"? Just a thought...

Mike, Serial # 4694 = Model 6150 built 12/22/73 by D.M.
shipped 12/28/73 to Gretsch Cinn. I think it was sold to William Griffin of Mt Nebo West Virginia.
# 5025 = Model 6150 built 2/15/74 by D.M. shipped 2/21/74 to Gretsch
Yes, my round-front LDG is #5257.So I have a round front LDG from 1974.... I wonder when the change to square happened. Anyone with a later serial # ??

Gene, if you do happen across any more information on model 6155 s/n 5692, such as who built it, I sure would appreciate knowing it. The reason I'd like to know is because it is such a fine guitar. I'm thinking it either had to be a custom job, built by one of the "big guns", or was just an incredible stroke of luck. Either way, it's mine 'till I die!
Many thanks again for providing all this incredibly valuable historical information. Most of us Bud guys had given up hope long ago on getting this kind of info.
Johnny
There is an initial in the built by space "Y" then somthing I can't make out. If I were to make a guess I would say "Yasu Kamiya". He was the Japanese fella who taught me to build Sho- Bud.
Gene
All my best,

Sho_Bud Serial #s
Hey Guys
I knew there were still just a few Sho-Bud nut's out there like me who thinks that even though the linkage is loose the old "Bud" can and will sit side by side with some of the new boys. Hate to tell you this but going to have to slow down some on this. I need to work out something else or some other way to approach it. The last few days have grown to around 3 hours per day and I can't spare that much. I have to practice on my Old Sho-Bud Steel once in a while. The Information is here just need to find a way to make it available. I understand everyone wanting the info. Just please give me some time. I'm not leaving yet.

Gene, Thanks so much for the information on all my Sho-Buds!!! But on # 14299 in particular, to my delight you've answered a mystery I never expected to know the answer to--namely, what the heck these "capped" holes were for:Gene Haugh wrote:Brint Hannay
Brint, Guitar 6150 serial # 14299 built 3/9/79 with Phase Shifter installed.
Guitar 6166 serial# 13375 built 6/5/78
The phase shifter is long gone. The guitar is sweet!
I've always assumed my Super Pro (model 6166) was an "Eighties" guitar (I bought it used-in-store from Oxon Hill Music in Oxon Hill, Maryland in 1984. I was told by the store owner that it had been used by Buddy Charleton as the guitar he played on in lessons with students--he had moved from Oxon Hill Music to a Harley-Davidson dealership in Clinton, MD as the location for his teaching.) It's great to set the record straight.

Sho Bud Serial Numbers
###########################################
Hi folks,
this topic reached page 5 soon and that´s just the beginning.
Just a few days, maybe a few weeks and the rest of the world has read is !!!
We all should thank Gene Haugh and hold him a big one whenever he needs help.
When Gene is so kind to help us we must find a way to get him off reading und studying the old records.
How many Steels had the Sho-Bud Company build ? How many players and collectors all over the world will ask him ??
Yes I would like to know about my old Sho Bud too, but there must be another way.
What about this:
Scanning the old records as a document, or maybe as a list. Depends an the documents Gene holds. Open that source here in the forum and then we could look ourselfs for the serial numbers. When it´s found paying a little fee at the forum should be worth it.
Is it possible and what do you think ?
Many thanks to Gene Haugh !
