I am rapidly turning into a Clinton Gregory fan.

Clinton also has a very nice stage presence. He announces the musicians when it's their turn.

How come we never hear from singers like Clinton any more? I think I know the answer: He's "too country".

I played with him Wednesday nite.. He was very complementary of my playing. He's still got it too !!!He sang his rump off all nite long... It was a great time. He is a real country singer and such a nice man !!! His musicianship is incredible...!

I 've had that video in my favorites for months and listen to it often, i always loved Clinton's singing he's right up there with Gene, Merle, Goerge ect..

Clinton does a Wednesday nite gig in Nashville at The Preston Hotel.

clinton plays the music we love with maximum feeling and class. he's 'way' too good to be popular. it doesn't really get any better..he's a great fiddler as well. my favorite song he did was,'why don't you just take a gun and shoot me'! goose bump material!

that steel playing by ron elliot on 'nobody's darlin' is beautiful...even with that dull sounding mullen.

chris, class playing all the way by Ron Eliot. Just the way we all want to hear it. And LIVE to boot. It hardly gets much better on a record.

I am in total disagreement about the "dull sounding Mullen" though. Mullen have always sounded bright and lively. If that is your true opinion, then all I can say is: It's all in the ear that hears.

Clinton is Gene Watson's fiddle player. Corkey owens is the steel player. Corkey plays a Rains guitar. I'm sure it sounds good but he plays through a 112 Peavey and you never hear him.
Could be if Corky would play a Dull sounding Mullen the sound crew would help him out a bit !
The last two shows I went to, Tazwell Fair, Tazwell Va. and the Bristol in Sept. this year. Gene, might as well, had no steel player.
Hate that. Love Corkey's playing.

This past August at Breeden's Studio, Nashville, I had the extreme pleasure to have had Clinton Gregory as the violinist on my recording session. (Can not call it a "fiddle" due to the way Clinton plays). This was a most enjoyable session for me and the talent Gene Breeden selected was among the best there is in Nashville.
Should you choose, you can go to the forum site "Steels heard around the world" and hear Clinton's work on one of the songs we recorded-"My Mother's Eyes". Clinton had dual duty on this session as he came in the next day and added the second "fiddle".
With Clinton on this session most of the songs were re-arranged to capitalize on his talent. He was really featured on all the songs and especially "Ashokan Farewell", "Cold, Cold War", "Farewell Party", "Heart of A Clown" plus all the rest. I was thrilled with this session and all the players there in Nashville.
Thanks Gene Breeden for all you do and have done for our steel guitar world.

bent....that you tube clip, to me, made the steel sound a little 'soft edged' for my preference. it could be the you tube quality or, as you suggest, my ears. i've had some medical treatments this year that have compromised my ears/hearing somewhat. hopefully temporarily. especially on the high end register.

as i said, the playing is just great, which is more important to me anyway.

Chris, thanks for the explanation and I know what you're talking about when you mention compromised hearing. I have some hearing loss myself due to working around heavy equipment all my life. Result: some hearing loss and constant hi-pitched ringing in my ears.
