Has any one used the pre or post send of their NV112 to drive another Peavey amp, ie, Session 400 or NV400 or LTD400. Thought I'd ask before I tried it and smoked something. I have done it using two NV112s, works great. |

Pardon my ignorance on this, but could you explain with a little more detail as to specifically which jacks to plug into on each side of things? Does it matter whether it is "pre" or "post", and will one of them cause harm as opposed to the other one(s)?? A picture or two might be useful as well. Also, a little guidance on scenarios when doing this might be appropriate.

Sure. Any of the outs on the NV112 are line level, and the power amp in on the amps expects a line level signal. I've run the preamp out of a NV112 into the power amp in of a NV400 many times. The only bad thing about that setup is on a NV400, the post gain knob doesn't control the volume of the power amp in, so you have no way to control the volume of the Nashville 400 plugged in this way. |

Thanks to Dick and Jonathan for the explanation on that, as well as the pictures.

why not just plug the 112 into the "booster" output in the back of the session? |

|

Brett,
The Booster on the back of a Session 400 or LTD 400 is an output. I'm assuming your suggesting using the Session to drive the NV112, ie, Session Master, NV112 Slave, is that correct? Is that output level a "Line Level Signal"?
Looking at the diagram, it looks like the DC level at that point could be as much as 1 volt. Cowboy electronics! Would the NV112 like that? Or care?
Just curious before I plug things up... |

You can use your master volume on the 112 to control your volume when plugging it in the 400. Then your EQ would be controlled by the 112 for both amps. I think what you would run into is that the 400 would overpower the 112. I gave up all that double amping stuff and just take one amp. One other thing, if you have a Hilton or a Goodrich, or some other pedal with two outputs come out of each output into each amp. The 400 will still be louder. The best way would be to use either two 112's or two 400's. |

I have a Nashville 1000 I'll sell you. Then you won't need 2 amps! _________________ Derby SD-10 4&5 Black!(duh)/

Dick; What you are doing is one reason for the External~Effects Loop on the rear of your amps. (No harm in the way you're doing it!) However, it is intended that you simply run a cord from the Pre~Amp. OUT on Amp.#1 to the Pwr.~Amp. IN on the #2 Amp.! Then the only knob you need to adjust on Amp. #2 is to match the Volume on Amp. #1. There is no need to use the Reverb on Amp. #2, because; the Reverb comes from Amp. #1 Pre-Amp. Hooking from the front, bypasses the reverb before going to amp. #2. All Effects-Loops on the Face of the Amp. are before the reverb-feature! Using the Rear~Loop will produce the same sound to both power-amps. and is actually the best and simplest way to go! I prefer running (1)-cord to the front of each amp. from the volume-pedal or through a stereo-out Effects Unit, to each amp. It creates a little fuller sound by using (2) complete Amps. w/pre-amp. settings, because; every amp. actually has a sound of it's own as opposed to a slave-unit. I feel it's worth the extra effort to set EQ on both Amps.! _ _ _ I would also patch the Delay in the Loop that you are using now to connect the (2)-Amps. Delay is not necessary in both amps., however; if you wish Delay in both amps. you'll need to go from your volume-pedal into your delay-unit and then pick up a Y-plug (at Radio Shack) to use as a double Output from your Delay to the Input of each Amp. I always run Delay in the Amp. fartherest away from the band, on stage. _________________ <marquee> Go~Daddy~Go, (No), Go, It's your Break Time</marquee> L8R, jb

Everyone, thanks for the input. All very good.
Greg, back under your rock.
John, thank you so much, just the direction of thinking and info I was looking for. Obviously my first time running two amps, and I had completely forgotten about the connectors on the back. I'll go rethink my hook up and try what you've suggested. Thank you, Dick S... |

I have a Session 400 and Nashville 400. I wanted to know how to run them together, and at Ken Fox's suggestion, I ran from the booster out on the Session to the Power Amp input on the Nashville. The Session preamp controls all the tone, reverb and volume, and the Nashville is merely a slave amp. It works great. I have used it a couple times when I was playing outdoors. Lots of power and headroom. |

With a volume pedal with 2 outs, send a cable from the pedal to each amp, I run my DD3 to the Steel Hing, and tune the 112 for best sound, you have the effects plus you can set the 2nd amp a little different for a stereo sound.
