Love Walked In - I & G Gershwin

Post by Sez Adamson »

Hello to Everybody,

I attach a link to “Love Walked In’. I hope you enjoy it.

For the record, this transcription for Pedal Steel Guitar is largely based on a Guitar arrangement by Barry Galbraith.

Barry was friendly with Hank Garland, and after a visit (seeing Hanks Stromberg Guitar), Barry ordered one as well. Barry passed on in the early 1980’s but left a legacy of beautiful arrangements, of which this is one.

Sez,

That was beautiful, very nice job-the arrangement and your great playing really shows the versatility of the pedal steel.

Thanks for posting,

Josh

I was gonna say you need to send that over to Jim Cohen but Jim Cohen beat me to it. Got more?

Thanks for your nice comments.

Jim, I am pleased and flattered that you want to put my video clip on your Steel Guitar Jazz website. Please go ahead. Many thanks.

I have my setup on an excel spreadsheet, but when I tried loading it, the formatting went haywire; ending up with the changes against the wrong pedals. I will put it on the forum once I have sorted out the glitches.

I am working on a fairly wide repertoire of music, and will post more in the future if there is sufficient interest.

Thanks again everybody.

That was just wonderful, thanks for sharing it with us, Sez.
I'd also love to see anything more you'd like to play for us. Wow.

p.s. I have a really old vinyl of one of those all-star big band sessions of the late 50's, and Barry Galbraith was the guitarist.

There's a lot of work that goes into creating an arrangement like this (or even just transcribing it from guitar to pedal steel), and then a lot more that goes into making it look easy. Super job, Sez. Send more!

I have now added it at the "More Great Videos" page at www.SteelGuitarJazz.com

Best,
Jim

Sez, that was amazing. Very inspiring for me as a newbie who eventually wants to play jazz on steel. Thanks for showing us the voicing possibilities we have for C6. Please keep the videos coming!

Many thanks to all who listened to the tune, and to those who responded. I will be taking time to to work up more repertoire, and hopefully improve with practice.

I realise that this kind of approach to great American Standards such as this is outside of the realm of "Traditional Steel Guitar Repertoire"; and may only appeal to a relatively small number of people.

However, as I very much enjoy the journey, and I don't do this for a living, mundane (but necessary for some) things, such as lack of earnings potential has little relevance for me.

I am very happy to know that there are those of you who enjoy this approach and will post more in due course.
Thank you very much,

Ditto what has been said so far. Your voicings are the most "guitar like" I have heard. You have found a way to transcend the limitations of the psg when playing this type of music. Very well done. Now, how did you do it? :) Don D.
