Thanks all my buddies!

One thing i have tried to do is get that Derby to have that punch you get with a Emmons! I think i have got the over tone out in the mix!

I'll swing another one here after while! I'm with you guys, i love it swingin!!!!! :D

compression

Post by Robert Cates »

Hi Kenny
That was very good. You are aa excellent player..thats for sure.
But I am just wondering about something. Why do you want so much compression in there. It certainly changes the tone of your guitar. I don't mean to pick you apart or say anything bad about you but I don't like the compression on your guitar.
But I realize that what I like doesn't matter. You, obviously, like it and thats what counts.

Excellent picking ..as usual

No harm there Bob! I have cut the compression back but sometimes not enough on slow tunes!

On fast stuff i like the note rounded with a little pop to it! Also i don't use enough reverb on slower stuff so i'm working on it!

This Derby takes a little work for me to get it to sound right! Its not the steel its me! I want it to sound like my old Emmons! I do not like an overtone on a steel so the E66's had that at first!

Anyways man, always tell me the truth on how it sounds because it will not bother me! It helps and that's why i post these!
So all good here man!

Thanks for the honesty on your feelings! I'm always working to improve so this makes me change it just to see if its better!

thanks!

Hey Bob,

My wife always says nothing but good things when i'm gone! "He's gone, good"

Hey for #3 she's ok but i did see #4 the other day! The only problem is #3 won't let me bring future #4 home!

Kenny

This is the first posting that I have seen of your playing. I certainly enjoy your style. And I think your tone is quite good. I play an Emmons original and I hear a lot of similarity between the Derby and the Emmons.

Paul

PS: I love the toe tapping with the left foot.

Thanks Paul!

Yea, the toe tapping is something i have tried to stop! The problem is if you nail that foot to the floor i can't play a note! It is absolutly part of the way i play!

I also hold my breath on a fast run and grit my teeth! If its a long run i turn blue!!! :whoa:

I'm going to re-do this tune a bit faster and hopefully cleaner!!

Hey Kenny,

Some real nice picking for sure. Now, I know I'm going to get jumped on (real hard) or stomped on, for saying this, but I feel, you were possibly over blocking just a tad bit.

That's the part I'll get jumped on for. Some will say: "How can anyone over block, hell we all struggle to block in the first place. :D

And, others might say: Here's a good one to be telling someone this nonsense, when to date, nobody has ever heard string number one come out of him.

Also, if you had the background a little bit louder, I feel, it would help the total overall sound.

Regardless, it was still a real nice job!

Keep up the good work.

No doubt about it Greg! Let's just say it not my money or looks!!! :P
No, not that either! It's cause i'm a steel player and we get all the chicks!

Don, man you will never get jumped on for saying how ya feel man! I went back and took another look and you might just be right on the blocking thing!

When i play a blue grass number i tend to try and single note everything as clean as i can but as i get sloppy i also try to correct with blocking!

So no problem about that comment! My 5th string has been sticking a little and i noticed watching it its a bit pitchy! I'll re-do and clean it up as well as back off the blocking!

Hey, i post these because i get some good idea's on what i do! Don't mind them at all! ;-)

Oh yea Greg, when i took her to Nashville with me to hang with Tommy White she feel in love with him!

She said he was a great guy, great player but most of all, she loved how he smiles all the time!
He is a super friend and a great guy but his smiling technique is not as good as mine!

Well, now i don't take her back cause Tommy is a real steel player!
:whoa:
