Hey Mr.,Emmons. On your album "One for the road",, what kind of guitar and effects did you use on the song "plus nine ( minus three )"? Just curious. Thanks Mr. Emmons!!! _________________ "Hotrod"

It's a little complicated. But here goes...
Effects used for Plus Nine Minus Three: An MXR Pitch Transposer and an MXR Delay System. They were rackmount MXR effects that were fairly new at the time. (BTW: The Pitch Transposer lowers or raises an added note creating a harmony to the original note.)
The main effect was the Pitch Transposer with the Delay plugged into the back to use the Transposer regeneration to create the cascading effects.
The Delay needs to be set to around 350 ms with 4-5 repeats turned to only effect. Turn the regeneration knob on the Transposer up.
When you play notes the Transposer takes the original note's delay and sends it back into the unit, which makes the effect repeat change according to what the preset is set to. If it's set at a fourth the regenerated effect will produce a note down a fourth and if you had it set for four or five repeats, the note would go down a fourth with each repeat.
As I said, it's complicated, but that's the basic idea. Sadly all the MXR rack mount effects are obsolete and have been since the early to mid 80's. _________________ My best,

Thanks Mr. Renn for the info. I thought Buddy might have recorded each part indivindualy like he did on "Canon in D Major". Thanks again and I hope everything goes good with the website. _________________ "Hotrod"

It was Bobby Fleet when Jim
Lindsey got hired on the band.
Way later in the series the same
bandleader character (different
actor, though) was referred to
as Freddie rather than Bobby.

Russ, that Jim Lindsay sure was a talented picker. He could sound like two or three players and the acoustic guitar had a great Fender or Gibson sound. Like they say, "It's all in the hands." |
