Alan Jackson-Steeler

Post by Tommy Alexander »

Brother Henry,
my first guess would be Paul Franklin; he has done most of Alans cd's. The tone don't sound like a Franklin; but that don't hold water because of Paul's great technique and what Alan would want.
Next might be Jim Heffernan; a great player in his ouwn right. From that point, Mike Johnson, Lloyd,Sonny Garrison, who knows. Neverthless, it's a good Alan Jackson cd.........

I believe it's Paul too. He pays respect to Don Helms style on that song and maybe a little of Kayton Roberts too. I like it.

Thanks for posting that link. I enjoyed Paul's steel playin', and the entire song too...Truth be told: I still like bologna on white bread now and then.

I have one (several actually)of Pauls tuition cassette tapes from many years ago when I first started , he goes through a "styles" section on one tape of a handful of well known players, he not only plays their style but also their "sound" so its not surprising we sometimes ask "who is the steel player"

Paul, how do you achieve this ? do you change amp settings or is it down to studying their technique and the sound naturally follows.. ???
