Topic: Fender volume & tone pedal - anything similar? |

Hi,
Is there another pedal that does the same thing as the "tone" part of the Fender volume and tone pedal? I'm interested in the "tone" part, but in the tilt (front to back) movement and not a side-to-side movement.
Also, any other thoughts on a pedal that would simulate sweeping through the tone control on a guitar? My lap steel doesn't have a tone control (only volume for the pickups).

| John, you're talking about what is generally called a "wah" pedal. They are made by Morley, Ernie Ball and others. |

You should be able to use a standard pot volume pedal as a tone pedal by wiring the pot like the tone control on a guitar. At least I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work!

| Yes, it's a very simple mod (move a couple of wires and add a capacitor). It can be done to any (pot) volume pedal. A fancy version might include a selector switch to provide several different "tone tapers" through switching in and out several different capacitors. Any tech can do the mod for you, and cost should be minimal if you already have the pedal. |

Why not use 2 identical volume pedals? (One wired for Volume and the other for Tone) One foot for Volume and one foot for Tone and your Lap remains level with control over everything, hands-free! Actually, a little more seriously; there are small Tone-Control boxes available that plug directly into your guitar's output-jack!

Wiring a volume pedal with a tone pot/wiring setup! Why didn't I think of that?!? What a great idea.

| Unless you have physical aversion to the side-to-side motion, the Fender vol/tone pedal is the logical solution to having both effects. I think you would find jumping back and forth between two pedals inefficient and very cumbersome. |

No need to jump back and forth between pedals. One foot for volume and one foot for tone! That's why your lap remains fairly level! Or even an effective advantage if you're playing dance-music! haha!
