There were many pedals used...I saw these...New Mullen, Hilton,Show-Bud, Marrs,Emmons,Goodrich, and some I could not identify, and some I did not see as I wasn't present for every player..

| How's this for lazy--at home I use a light beam pedal because I can leave it plugged in and not have to worry about running down the battery. On gigs I use a pot pedal because it's one less wall wart to plug in. I wasn't paying a ton of attention to what pedals were being used on stage but I don't recall seeing anybody having to plug in their pedals so I'd guess pot pedals were more prevelant, but that's just a guess. |

Do you mean you couldn't tell how much better those expensive pedals sounded compared to a regular old pot pedal?  |

I wasn't paying much attention to the brands, but since I was there to learn, I paid attention to pedal usage.
Most of the best players use the volume pedal very little. I watched the players feet, and few use the pedal much at all. There was certainly no obvious difference in tone with different types of pedals from the second row of the room.
The foot to watch is the left one. My wife pointed out that the best players use the pedals and knee levers more than I do.
There are a whole lot more important things than the type of volume pedal IMO.

For what it is worth, I was using the new Mullen volume pedal and I know some other players were using it too. Believe me, there is a great difference in the sound and feel of the Mullen pedal. It is in a class all its own and anyone who tries one I believe will hear the difference. It took me about 10 minutes to make up my mind. Of course, it is electronic, but plugging it in is nothing and the pedal is smaller and lighter than most other pedals on the market.

I think this is a valid question, Andy. I looked for it. How popular are the powered pedals with the pros? I've been to Dallas thrice and St Louis twice, and I've yet to see a main stage performer plug in a powered VP. The big E used a regular old Goodrich 120, as well as many others. I'm sure some players must have been using them, but overwhelmingly it was regular pot pedals.

Chris I wouldn't be surprised if people used pot pedals at these shows for the convenience of getting on and off stage with their equipment quickly without having to worry about plugging pedals into the power.
But then could use powered pedals for their gigs because you have more setup time !! I know thats what I do !

Paddy, the reason you stated for players using pot pedals at multi-act convention stages is the same reason why I switched from an LDR back to a 120. In general it's easier. I know some people have AC on their seats, or an extension cord all wired and ready to go. But with the variety of venues I play, I find the pot pedal to be very convenient.
