Orderd mine today from Sweetwater Sound in Ft. Wayne, IN 1-800-222-4700. I was told by Bob Mondock that it should be here by no later than mid-August. Bob's extension number is: 1354
He is a good guy to deal with.

The Carter Starter, Fender "Steel King" amp made for pedal steel....It looks like the ball is rolling....(or bar I should say).

...And we have people like E to thank for their persistence.

These are from a private showing by Fender in one of their suites at the NAMM show Friday night. Lloyd Green was in attendance along with forumites Randy Beavers, Tommy Dodd, Billy Phelps, Johnny Cox, Dyke Corson, and Bob Knight.

Good features, but best one for me is its compactness. Looks about the same size as my NV400. It'll be nice to try one out when they reach the UK. Also - nice to see it comes complete with a cover. Most don't.

Fender sent me a prototype of the Steel-King, back in june. Great amp! The Steel-king is what we used to expect from fender. They're back! Dana Flood
[This message was edited by Dana Wayne on 24 July 2004 at 09:41 PM.]

I've got one on order. It cost me $629.
I'll be curious to hear how it compares with my old original '65 Twin Reverb.

John
The new Fender amp had a great sound.
Every player sounded good, I think
the Carter guitar deserves some credit too.

Yeah John, but the 2 x 4 I tested last week sounded better than ever through the new Fender. Thanks for the use of the guitar at the Fender room. Carter and Fender make a nice sounding couple.

Curry,
EQ Tilt - 9 o’clock for C6 and around 10 or 11 o’clock for E9.
Treble - around 11 o’clock.
Mid Level - 10 or 11 o’clock. This control doesn’t work unless the Mid Frequency knob is moved from the center setting.
Mid Frequency - 11 o’clock.
Bass – 1 o’clock
Reverb – 10 o’clock

The Steel King is designed to get a good sound with all knobs straight up, but as you know different guitars will require variations from those points. I’ve tried three or four different brand guitars with the amp and found a good tone for all of them. The settings I gave you are for my JCH, but the amp is so user friendly, you’ll not have to hunt long for a tone that compliments your guitar.

I bought a new Fender Twin Reverb with two 12" JBLs back in 1975. I played it until 1978 when I sold it and bought a new Peavey Session 400 with the 15" Black Widow. The Fender amp was a good sounding amp, and I never had any trouble with it. The Peavey amp was supposed to be cleaner with less distortion for pedal steel. I do wish that I had kept the Fender amp; so that I could compare it to the new Fender amps. It took me about one year to get adjusted to the solid state sound of the Peavey over the Fender tube sound. However, I got use to the Peavey, and I believe that the Session 400 is what all other steel amps have been made to try to duplicate. Fender may have a good product out with the Steel King amp. However, in my opinion Fender is "A Day Late and a Dollar Short" as the old saying goes. The only amp that they came out with for steel guitar was back in the 1970s, and it was called the Vibrosonic; which was the same as the Twin Reverb but had a 15" JBL instead of two 12" JBLs. In 1975 both the Vibrosonic and the Twin Reverb were rated at 100 watts of power. A company has to do several things before I will spend money with them. They must make a good product, sell it at a fair price, and back up the product with a good warranty and equally good customer service. Peavey certainly has done that over the years! Hartley Peavey is no fool. He realizes what and who he has working for him in his company. I don't think you can get any better customer service than what I have received from Mike Brown and Heather Bowling at Peavey. So I guess if it does not say Peavey on the front of the amp, then it will not sit behind my steel guitar!!!
