New Fender Steel Guitar Amp

Hey guys and gals, if you’re in the market for a new amp, Fender has one made for steel guitars called the Steel King, and here are some of the features:
200 watts into a 4 ohm lead.
All new preamp design tailored for clean, versatile tone shaping.
Custom Fifteen Driver based on the JBL D130F model.
XLR output with level control with pre post EQ.
Effects loop and tuner output with a mute button.
Limiter with On/Off button.
Fender long spring reverb by Accutronics.
Cover and three button switch.

I’ve been living with the Steel King for a couple of weeks now and think it’s the greatest out-of-the-box amp sound I’ve heard in a long time. The tone circuit is very user friendly and I’m going straight into the amp with a Boss DD-3 in the effects loop and a cable to my tuner. I haven’t thrown my Genesis away but with what little effects I use, I don’t need it with this amp. I’ve been told they are now available, so check one out if you get the opportunity.

Hey Buddy,Sam Marshall brought two of these amps. to our last jam in April that Mike Smith had been playing around with.I only got to play through one for a short time and would need to take one to the job to properly assess it,but what i heard sounded real good.

So far I haven't used the limiter, but my time with the amp has been limited to my music room.

Just checked the website and couldn't find any info. I called Sweetwater Music in Ft. Wayne, IN and one of their salesmen (Jason), is checking with Fender and is supposed to get back with me on production, availability, and price. This is exciting news!

Buddy, as always many thanks for your comments .

I have no doubt that this is a fine amp and I have seriously considered "Acquiring" one.

Question for those that may already have on..

My requirements are for a double duty amp, Steel and the dastardly Tele'..is it the opinion of the minions that this amp could in fact be the Holy Grail of the double duty amps as well ?

Is this the same or similar to a previous current model Vibro King with the 15" JBL or something like that ? My friend Joe Smith here in Charlotte has one of those and it kicks the tires pretty good.

My previous tenure had always been with a Silver Face 85W Twin for double duty..with a JBL D130 Installed..

Thoughts? users?

Buddy,

Have you had a chance to try out the '65 Twin Custom that they started production on at the beginning of this year? If so, how do these amps compare? I had very bad luck with two different '65 Twin Customs and a number of people I have talked to felt that Fender was jumping the gun in racing to the steel guitar market without really testing that Custom out (both of mine had odd tube and cabinet rattles at various tone frequencies...so both went back for a refund).

I'm not trying to take the focus away from the Steel King....I only mention the Twin Custom to explain why I would like to know if the Steel King's cabinet and speaker are efficient in reproducing the sounds of a steel guitar without any added "noises"....

My main concern is weight!! I've been lugging 100# of amp around and at my age that's getting tiresome. If Buddy likes the sound and it has a reasonable weight I'm going to give this some serious consideration.

I've had a few folks ask me when the info about the amp will show up on the Fender website. I spoke with Sam Marshall (designer) and he said new amps will typically show up on the website a few weeks after NAMM. I believe they already have a stock of manufactured units and, of course, you'll be able to check them out at the show.

Buddy I Played With Clifton Jansky 70s We Were the warm up band at Randys Rodeo in San antonio Willie Nelson Darrel Mcall It Was Great. Randy Reinhardt needs some more lessons .Thanks for the info on amp if you like it so do I Randy Gilliam in San Antonio

I have a Twin Reverb I sometimes use instead of my Webb. I always liked the sound of a good Fender Amp!

I checked availability today in one of Houston's Guitar Center and they didn't have one in stock, but they could order one for $699.00. The salesman said they could probably get one within 3 weeks.
