I talked with LInda Caldwell today and here is the update on Bobby. It started with him having an upset stomach and wound up with the dry heaves. Then double vision. His visit to the eye doctor determined that the metal plate he has in his jay is causing the double vision and there is nothing an eye doctor can do until his doctor can find a solution. The doctor did change his medicine and that helped with the pain he was having. He had a doctors visit today and now he has to wait until Wednesday, September 2nd for another appointment and that is only to set a date for another operation.
Bobby is trying to put the operation off so he can at least make an appearance at the Convention and say hi to his many friends. But if the doctor says no to this then Bobby will miss the first Convention in 37 years. It is already a know fact that Bobby will not be able to play guitar and has suggested that Duke Dumas be his replacement for this year. Duke has accepted. Roger Miller and possibly several other guitar player will add their support when needed.
Lets all direct our prayers to the what I have considered to be "The Best Guitar Player In The World" BOBBY CALDWELL! Scotty |

Best Wishes Bobby. I hope and pray that all will be well with you and the doctors get this under control.
It will be good to see Duke Dumas back on the ISGC stage, and I'm sure he'll do an outstanding job but you will be sorely missed. |

Thanks Scotty for the up-date on my friend (and family) the "best guitarist I've ever worked with". I will certainly miss him and his leadership on the band stand this year and will be looking forward to his return next year. His absence will leave a huge hole in the band. Now having said that, let me say this, I worked many years with Duke Dumas, on the main stage, we in the band know Bobby will be very capably represented by Duke, a great guitarist in his own right, and I would like to personally welcome Duke back.
Right now I would like to ask that each of us keep Bobby and Linda in our prayers and to ask Our Precious Lord for a speedy and full recovery for the "best guitar player in the world".
God bless Bobby,

I echo everything Mr Roy said. The greatest piano player knows what it takes to fill Bobby's shoes. Sandy & I will certainly keep Bobby & Linda in our prayers. Also keep Duke in your prayers as he has a formidable task in front of him. I have no doubt he will excell and make Bobby proud. |

Oh my, I'm so sorry to hear of Bobby's situation. I sure hope they can get him back to his normal, healthy self before too long. Bobby you'll be sorely missed at the convention, that's for sure.
Be well, my friend,

Mr Bobby,
I pray for our Makers healing power to bring you through this problem, swiftly, and give you complete healing. And to give you and Miss Linda peace, comfort, and understanding during this treatment.
I had the privelege of working with Mr Duke, in South Carolina a couple weeks ago.Still plays great, and we had a good picking session..been a long time since I had the opportunity to pick with him...
Mr Duke is a great player, but I'm sure he would be the first to admit ,he is no Mr Bobby Caldwell.
Looking forward to visiting with you in a few days my friend...
Peace and love to you and Miss Linda, and your family.

I pray for a postitive outcome. Bobby is one of my guitar heroes. It doesn't matter what the steelers play Bobby is always right there with them. Very few lead pickers could do that. |

I will miss having Bobby back me up, as will the other steel guitarists. I have never worked with Mr. Dumas, but if he is Scotty's pick to fill in for Bobby, I have full confidence that he will be a pleasure to work with. Laurie and I will be keeping Bobby in our prayers and will be asking the Keeper of the Stars to watch over him and guide the doctors in restoring Bobby's health.
Bobby, we are so sorry you are going through the pain and aftermath of your earlier cancer and surgery. Keep the faith and follow the doctors' orders. We will be expecting you back at the convention next year.
Scotty, thanks for letting us know about Bobby's setback -- and please keep us posted on his progress. _________________ Pioneers of Western Swing HOF, Seattle 2005

How I hate that this 'setback' has occurred.
Bobby has been working diligently, and quite
succesfully, to get himself back into his usual
great playing form after extensive surgery and
treatment just after last years ISGC, and was
so totally looking towards this years convench.
God bless Bobby and Linda.
