Sounds like Lloyd Green to me. Great playing!

This guy has posted a bunch of Dolly Parton gospel cuts from this album, with great steel or dobro:

And a bunch of Buck Owens with great steel playing by Tom Brumley:

I don't think it's JayDee. Sounds like Lloyd Green, or maybe Tommy White, to me, but I can't find a personnel listing for her "Precious Memories" CD.

Perhaps he meant JD to be Jimmy Day but I'm hearing more of Hal Rugg's bite in this cut by Dolly.

I don't think it's Jimmy Day. I think the backup in the second verse sounds particularly "Green". I don't know if Lloyd Green has any other recording history with Ms. Parton but he did also play on the newer "Backwoods Barbie" CD. Interesting tone, too. It sounds like it might have been recorded direct, but still sounds really good.

I didn`t mean Jimmy Day. The intro had a couple of licks that made me think of Jay Dee.

He does.

[Commentary on the above . . . I can't help it: The first note is a barnstormer, and I love the tone — it's honey and Grape Nuts . . . smooth and sweet, yet crunchy and substantial.]
