Watched The Tommy Hunter show for years and always loved Bob on steel. Steve Smith tours with Tommy and have seen the show locally here twice and went back stage to talk to Steve the last time. At that time was playing a new D-10 Carter. Very much a gentleman and a real Pro!

I think that is Mike Douchette on the second clip.

I still have two old video tapes full with those shows and still love them. Bob's playing is absolutely great, he even does one or two instrumentals. Other guests I saw on these shows were Hank Snow (with Kayton Roberts), Eddy Arnold, Jeannie C. Riley and more. Tommy also could sing a good country song, for sure!

Wow, Bob Lucier playing an EMMONS! Bobby for years was a diehard Sho-Bud freak and would scoff at any other brand. I think that was a PP that was converted to an all-pull.

Ok, true confessions.

I grew up on the Tommy Hunter show. He was a marvelous talent, and the show was a godsend for those of us who grew up more or less off the grid, as far as entertainment goes.
Having said that, this clip shows the portion of the program I enjoyed the least; the frenetic, overheated "jam" segment always occured near the conclusion of the show, and to me it always paled in comparision to some of the great presentations that occured earlier in the show.
Thanks for referencing this clip, it's nice to see them, and the Ronnie Prophet show clips as well, which are all a slice of Canadiana.

When I lived in Cleveland as a kid, sometimes we'd get reception of a Canadian station across the lake. I watched the Tommy Hunter show often on weekends. I enjoyed hearing Bob. Thanks for posting.

John S. You're right about that part of the show...you kinda lose your breath or something. I always figured things would have been different and better if the CBC hadn't been the decision makers.
But I am telling ya...I was an immigrant fresh from Norway in 1973 and hungry for Country Music and Steel. So y'all can just imagine my excitement when I first saw the Hunter show with Bob L.
The term "died and gone to heaven" applies for sure...

I get to jam with Tommy's earlier steeler, Ollie Strong every winter. Ollie is a top notch steeler too.

The Tommy Hunter Show was a staple in our home going back to when I used to watch it with my grandparents in the '60s. There's no question that I saw my first pedal steel on that show. For some reason I have an idea that Larry Sasser appeared on the show at some point. Is that possible or am I mixed up? Larry, are you out there?
