That is great news. I have always considered Weldon to be one of the great steel players of all time. His break on the Johnny Bush version of "Whiskey River" has some of the hottest steel playing you could want to hear. I understand he is a fine man as well. Oh yeah, someone did mention he is a Texas lad too. |

What can you say about Weldon? Even though I do not know the man pwesonally, I do know and love his of playing. He is truly a great player and was deserving of the honor that was bestoed on him.I have some old Moe Bandy records (yes those things made out of vinyl) in my collection here at home and I have listened to his playing for allmost 30 years, And I have a Bill Anderson and Connie Smith album (both vinyl) featuring him on the steel guitar.
I know he is in the ISGHOF, but we need him in the Country Music Hall of Fame too. That's my humble opinion.

I'm fortunate to live in TN within a 30 minute drive of the HOF. I got to see the interview Saturday and it was like most of the presentations at the HOF, very thoughtful and classy. Connie Smith, Bill Anderson, Jett Williams, Ferlin Husky in the audience. Very cool. |

The whole event was to run about 1 ½ hours with Weldon playing 4 or 5 songs. I think the interview portion ran a little long so Weldon only got to play one song…..Bruce, did you catch the name of the song Weldon played?
There was a lot of history and biographical information with old photos and film clips projected on a backdrop screen, but the stories that Weldon told were the best portion of the interview. Should have been more focus on these gems.
These “Nashville Cats Salutes” are quarterly events. I believe they have done about 6 so far and they have all been filmed. I would expect that sometime in the future, they will be available on DVD. |
