For any of you that might be in the Wichita Falls Texas area on Sat. 7/31. Jake Hooker and his band will be at the VFW from 8 to 12. The band will consist of Jake Hooker on vocals and upright bass, Jeff Croy on drums Dicky Overby and Joan Cox on twin Texas steels. I had the opportunity to play with Jake , Dicky and Jeff a couple weeks ago and had a ball. This will be four hours of real country music done just right. Don't miss it.

About a year ago, I had the pleasure of playing a job in Benjamin, Texas with Jake, Bobby Flores on fiddle and guitar, and Jim Loessberg on drums. What great country music we played! It took me about a week to come back down to earth.

I've heard a rumor that they are booked here in San Angelo at the Coachman Club sometime in late August. I hope I get a chance to go say howdy.

Candie..I took my Session 500 and had a ball!! I drove 2 hours to Jake's house, and rode with him and Dicky to the job, about 90 miles away. I got to listen to a preliminary copy of Jake's newest album, with Dicky on steel, and a recording of Johnny Bush and the Bandoleros on New Year's Eve in 1970. Frenchie Burke was playing fiddle and singing. What a recording..Needless to say, it didn't seem like it took long at all to get to our job. Dicky and I were having a "sustain contest" with our guitars to see which one would sustain the longest at the end of each song. I think we agreed it was a tie. He had "Rosie" and I had my red MSA. We played about every shuffle that was ever written. Jake played upright bass and Jeff Croley played drums, and Dicky and I were the lead section. No guitar, no fiddle (Bobby Flores was in Europe). I am completely spoiled now..nothing can be as good as sitting up next to Dicky for 4 hours while he's there doing his thing. We played alot of harmony kickoffs and parts..I wish I could have taped it. Jake is the best and the real deal..you're in for a treat if you're going to St. Louis this year when he plays the dance.

Call me crazy, but I'm beginning to think Johnny and Joanie like it here in TX.

Joanie,

YOU GO GIRL!!!!!!

I remember the first time I heard you play. I was with Russ, and he sat there, laughing that deep sly laugh under his breath, cause as he said, "you just dont play like no girl".
You're all class and talent, and I'm so glad you're in a place where those things are recognized and appreciated. We miss you here, but we know you and Johnny are having a musical ball out there!
Wish we could be have been there to see this great show!
Love you guys,
Laney and Russ
