You already know I'm a true fan of your fabulous playing....

I can't think of any finer example for a player's "EYE & EAR training", than to watch this latest of your beautiful examples of 'how to play the steel guitar.'

Your camera angle is perfect for purposes of instructional observation. Your musical tones are so crystal clear and easily identifiable that one would have to be totally incompetent NOT to come away from viewing this presentation with many benefits in his pocket.

What a perfect example of how musically powerful a strategic 'pause' might be at this point or that.

This one had a little more reverb than I find tolerable but then again, it's YOUR performance and not mine, so I really shouldn't have made that comment.

Personally, I just wish more players could view this clip and come away with all that it has to offer, particularly the newer/younger players. Somewhere years ago, pedal steel became associated with lightening speed picking and yet, there is so much more to the slower songs. THANK YOU David, for sharing with us, once again.

David, beautiful rendition. And I along with many others I'm sure, thank you for not trying to copy "Papa John" and for giving us your interpretation of the song. So many steelers try their dead level best to copy PJ but it probably will never happen again. Super play and love that Rains. Carp can certainly be proud of his horns. I don't believe I've ever heard a bad one.

David....I have to say that you played a monster rendition of Vince Gills great song. I agree that Mr. John would be very proud of your version, too. Tone and execution is so eloquent. Let's hear some more......HAL

David,
Another beautiful rendition of a classic country song. Your made it your own with your creative arrangement, and, as always, your tone and execution are to die for. Thank you!

Great tone and notes. David should really be playing in St. Louis, in my opinion. For him to be there and not play, is like having Billy Graham come to your church and not ask him to say a few words.

David, David just amazing. Why don't you tab this one for my 75th birthday; I'd be interested in buying two copies. I have two renditions of this but IMO, this is just fantastic. IMO, there is a lot to be learned here.

Just great picking thru the whole song. Thanks for offering up a bit of a different take on this tune that has been played by so many.
Man would I love to see/hear you in person when I go to England at the end of the month. But as my luck will have it, you'll likely be in the US by then...

As usual, very, very nice.

You might want to post this over in the "Steel On The Web" section.

David,

you played it very well, I wish I could. But I still have a bit of critic and it is that I don't feel the emotion of the song so much, like in the other songs you play. I want my goosebumps ...

Beyond earning a spot at major shows Mr. Hartley is rapidly earning his way towards a hall of fame honor in the future IMHO. Every so often a rare talent of that calibre surfaces and David is that talent.
David's videos originally inspired me to take the jump and purchase a steel guitar.

Then YOU would be the IDEAL man to propose him for the hall of fame..check out the way to do it, HERE:- http://www.scottysmusic.com/abouthof.htm

You can also join the European Steel Guitar Forum and have you say there about the European Steel Guitar Hall of Fame
