Here's something for all the historians and those who want to go back to the "golden days of radio".

The show was recorded as an audition broadcast for the CBS network but not selected in the end. It was recorded by KRLD in Dallas, most likely in Jim Beck's studio, one of the musical hotspots of the era. Host is Johnny Hicks who was a DJ for KRLD. Featured artists are Lefty Frizzell (with three number one hits to his credit), young Ray Price, Billy Walker, Leroy Jenkins, Betty Johnson and the Light Crust Doughboy.

Southern Calif. always had it's share of live and remote Radio shows. For the remotes from the Dance Halls and Clubs there was always 2 or 3 Cowbells hung from the Bandstand. When the show came on the the customers would gather in front of the Bandstand to hoop and holler and the Cowbells were shaken together while the Theme Song was being played. Same scenario at the end sign off. Air time was relatively cheap and if the Band got some sponsers sometimes it cost next to nothing to broadcast.

Those were great days !
