I take my stuff in about 4. People start showing up and setting up about 6. Officially, we start at 7, but sometimes we play a little before that.

It's a circle jam, everybody gets to play, take turns calling tunes. Very friendly, very competent group, with a few "open mike" set-ins to challenge us some times.

We play until 9:30 or so, unless we have somebody that's really dragging us down. (80-year-old drummer with bad legs drug us down so bad we quit at 8:30!!) He's not there any more.

It's a lot of fun. And of course, everybody is welcome.

Rick

Rick,

Do you all play with any amps?

I am going to be down in the next couple of weeks and would like to swing by.

Amps?

Post by Rick Jolley »

You bet your sweet a** we do!! I have no use for "Acoustic Nazis" -- I call them -- who seem to think that just because a bunch of ignorant kids don't learn how to use their instruments, we should trash them all.

All of my heroes, from Merle and Chet, to Curly, Bud &
Buddy, played electric.

The music is quiet, but almost everyone is amplified. (The way God intended Country music to be played!!)

It's kinda funny. They have a Western Music Festival here in November and try to play cowboy music. But they don't have:
+ A Steel
+ An accordion

Yet if you listen to Gene & Roy, what do you hear?

I guess you can tell this is a hot button for me. I will discuss it at length on my new website. Eventually.

Best,

I put a lot of stuff about Western Swing on the website this morning. I forgot about one of my important ELECTRIC influences -- Eldon Chamblin. How could he have played all that stuff without an electric guitar??

Well, Chuck Smith (from Safford, AZ) showed up for our
31st jam. It was WONDERFUL!!! He would play all those great steel licks on his universal, and we would all get a big smile on our faces!!

But I have been pretty badly treated by the manager of the Four Deuces, and we will quit playing for a while.

I will let you know when/if we start up again, when/where,etc. It's a pretty good jam. (31 weeks, eh?)

 Well, I thought we'd hold up for a couple of weeks (or longer) so that the Deuces management would see that we deserved better than we were getting.

"No Rick... you're not the leader any more."

The band mutineed, and went back into the 4D and they've been playing ever since. NO PAYING WEEKENDS!!
No leader. Doc Diamond calls them "The Mob".

They're better off. No Bossy Rick. Rick is back in
Colorado Springs, looking for a good gig!!!

Gimme a shout if you need a good lead guitarist who can sing and harmonize.
