Am I correct to assume that when viewing a website the owner/moderator
cannot determine the source of the viewer (in this case my computer's location).
And, cannot cross-reference my visit to the website to my e-mail address to solicit me with spam?

Many thanks

The website's webmaster can get your IP address public IP of your modem), but cannot get your email address unless you enter it into an email field on the website.

The IP address can be traced to the nearest city, or your ISP, but not your actual address.

Spammers can get your email address from another person's computer, if they have been infected with an email harvesting Bot. If you have sent or received any email from that person, or persons, your email address will be harvested and you will receive spam from the people who rent that Botnet.

All names on a Carbon Copy (C.C.) mailing list will also be harvested, if even one of them is infected with a harvester Bot. That is why I preach against forwarding email using a CC list. Each forward adds another email address and name to the ever-growing list, just waiting to be harvested by spammers.

If you must send or forward messages to your friends, please learn to use the B.C.C. (Blind Carbon Copy) field, instead of the C.C. field. At least you will protect the bulk of your recipients from being harvested, should such a Bot infect one or more of the list.

Maybe with some amazing detective work, or a subpoena sent to your ISP. But generally no.

If you have an account on the site and they have your email address then, at that point they have it so anything's possible. Which is why it's better to use a temporary address if you know you're not coming back.

Something like http://www.guerrillamail.com

But if we're talking regular spam on a site that you have not given your email out to then no.
