Fran wanted me to give you an update on the business.
Give her a week or two and she will start filling orders. The business will go on as before only without the teacher. She has all the masters for the courses, and can duplicate them just as before. Fran was an integral part of the business and knows how to run it with the same standards it's always had.
An observation from me:
The same principals of how to learn to play a steel guitar are the same now as they were when Jeff and Fran started out. They have built a huge catalog of teaching material that has withstood the "test of time", and it still works. Just because Jeff isn't here anymore doesn't affect the validity of the principles that he laid out in these materials. The last year or so, he made all the courses available on DVD as well as video tape. So really, you'll still have him there so you can watch him do it.
Another point of interest: Jeff had just finished recording a new CD. He had already bought his plane ticket to fly out to Phoenix this week to do the final mixing. He recorded it with a lifelong frind Billy Williams. Billy is finishing the CD and it will be available in the near future. This is going to be great! Jeff was as excited about this project as he could be. This was to be his "trophy" recording. So be on the lookout for it.
Jeff has left a great legacy, and it will go on. I, like many of you, feel the loss of a mentor and friend. But we can take solace in the fact that we have known him and have been his friends.

My very good freind and Jeff Newman.I told Jeff at the 1997 Atlanta Travaganza that he looked and talked like Ross Parrol and he laughed and said yer I wish I had his money. Please keep me posted on the new CD.

Thank you, Randy and Fran. I sent in for two of the 12-string courses this week before I read this. I don't mind waiting.

Randy, thanks for the update. Glad to hear that Fran is continuing the business as I still have more I want to purchase in the coming months. The week I spent with Jeff and Fran in January in Mesa, Arizona was life-changing in regards to my steel playing. I am so glad that I had the opportunity to work with Jeff. Can't wait to get the recording he made with Billy.
Thank you, Randy, for coming to Mesa. You were awesome.

Randy, Thanks for the good news about Jeffran.
Jeff on Video and DVD will be just like he is right there with us.
Thank Fran for continuing on as the material is all great and as you say timeless.
There are thousands of steel players who will appreciate learning Jeff's material.

Randy, I enjoyed your segment on the Tribute to Jeff earlier. I am so glad to hear Fran will keep things going. Please tell her James & Cathy Banks from Texas are thinking about her and we are praying for her strength as she goes thru this time. I spent time with him last summer and now I am going to start building up my collection of DVD's I attended all the seminars in Dallas since 97 except for last year. Jeff was my inspiration not to give up on the steel.

Hi Randy
When I was with Jeff in December last, he played me some of that new CD. There is a track on there called 'Who's Sorry Now' and its knockout. I asked him if the tracks would be available and I cant remember if he said they would or not.
Perhaps you could ask Fran if the tracks could also be made available |

Although we had a few emails back and forth, I really didn't know Jeff Newman, but I was planning on some personal instruction.
I believe that Fran Newman is providing an invaluable service for the steel guitar community and future players by keeping Jeffran alive. This is an honor to his memory.
I know that Jeff Newman worked hard (and smart) to build his business to what it is today. But it's more than a "business." Its been a way of life in the steel guitar world.
Having had to make a similar decision years ago, I think I can say that Jeff would have wanted Jeffran to continue to benefit current and future students for many years to come. I will certainly be one of them.
My appreciation and respect to Fran Newman. |

I'm sure this will be a wonderful project. I work with Billy often and he has been talking about this project for some time now. Like so many others, Billy was hit very hard with the recent news about Jeff.
For those that are not aware, Billy Williams is a Grammy Award winning producer/musician who also produces Lyle Lovett. I'm looking forward to hearing the final mixes myself.

Did Jeff have any understudies who could follow his lesson plans for the live instruction classes and seminars? It seems that this would be a good way to keep his work alive. Granted it wouldn't be the same as Jeff, but there is a need for his work to go on. The organization seems to already be in place except for this. |
