I talked to his daughter briefly last night, and he was just getting out of surgery. Must have been an afternoon surgery. She hadn't seen him or talked to the doctor at that point, but they were getting his room ready in ICU. She is going to call me this morning with more news. I'll keep everyone posted!

Yes Please do! I've been wanting to call him but I figure it's better for him if he can just rest and recuperate.

I received a phone call today, but wish I had better news to report. :(

Rick is in the ICU and is still critical at this point. Last night, he went into cardio-pulmonary arrest, and is currently on a mechanical ventilator, which is doing his breathing for him. He is in a medically induced coma, so his body won't naturally fight the work of the ventilator.

His heart appears to be okay at the moment...we're just waiting for his body to stabalize itself from the arrest, which causes a systemic lack of oxygen to the tissues and organs (hypoxia).

His daughter said he's beginning to show signs of stabalizing, but a post-operative infection has also developed, which is yet another thing for his body to fight.

The family is holding up as well as can be expected. They appreciate all the thoughts and prayers from everyone. We won't know much more until they try to wean him off of the vent in a couple of days.

Rick, hang in there, we're all pulling for you!

As you rest and heal, know that an orchestra of steelers think warmly of you and wish you a quick recovery.

Jeff, thanks for keeping us informed. That's bad news indeed. Let's hope for the best possible outcome and raise a tonebar toast to Rick who has contributed so much to this community. Get well and back behind those steels where you belong, man!

If anyone wants confirmation of how much Rick is thought of by this community they need only look at how many times this topic has been viewed.

Everyone is thinking of him.

Thanks for all the updates, Rick is always in my thoughts. A good friend's dad is in the exact same situation at the moment, ironic.
Once again sending all my best and positive thoughts all around to Rick and his family.
