I just finished watching your video of STAND BY ME. I really enjoyed it and I like your playing style. It looks as if you only use your thumb and index finger only. . . . . .(2 picks) very interesting! What kind of guitar were you playing?

Hi Steve!
Sorry to be late getting back to you, the weekends get a little busy for me.
No, it`s not quite a B-3 yet!, but I am working on it.

The sound is generated by a gizmo called a H.O.G.,that is to say a harmonic octave generator.
As the songwriter said "I`ve only just begun!"

I never could get the hang of the proper way to play the steel, so I just did the best that I could.
I trust that it does not offend so many of the "Purists", here on the forum, but, it is, what it is!

Thanks, for tuning in.
Yes, unfortunately I never did learn the proper method for playing the chord pattern of the steel players of today, and past. I guess you would call my style, a "single note", "single string", type of playing, using my thumb, and 1st. finger to pick out the notes, and some chords, (if i`m lucky

) My guitar, is a modified carter, which is a work still in progress by the way.(smile)Thanks,for asking

Seriously,I can't wait to see and hear all of you Pioneers of this Sacred Steel Legacy all on the same stage at the same time sharing your stories and musical gifts with us. This will be one of the greatest days in the seventy year history of this great music tradition.I get goose bumps just thinking about it.

Bishop Hall,

I use the POG (similar but only octave up and down) along with a leslie simulator (Boss RT-20), both used together gets really close to a B3 sound.

I can hear that the HOG does give more organ like thickness than the POG, but having a leslie going on is the frosting on the cake.

Thanks for your informative info on the attainment of the B-3 Sound, But it never was meant to be the sound of a B-3, It was an experiment at the loaning of a sound box from a friend to see what it would sound like if I used it! It was an interesting unique sound, but I dont know if I like it or not! I am not into electronic effects.

I wish I could say, I had some kind of mystical tuning or something, but!!!, I simply play what I think it is known as, "E" natural. Beginning with the 1st. string down to the 10th. string which is the Bass. They are: 1/E,2/B,3/G#,4/E,5/B,6/E,7/B,8/E,9/B,10/E.
See, I told you nothing fancy! $:\$ Oh yes, one other thing. I play to the key of "F"! Strange is`nt it? But true! Thanks for asking!
