DERBY ROOM ...with business as usual at ...ISGC.at St. Louis

Post by Danny Hammers »

That's right, the Derby Room will be business as usual.

Margit, wife of Charlie Stepp, was not going to have the Derby Room this year, she said that it is a lot of work that she didn't think she was going to be up to doing.

For a lot of us, the Derby Room was our Home Room. So Billy Robinson, Lynn Owsley, Ron Elliott and myself stepped in to make sure the Derby Room would be there. There may only be one or two new Derby Guitars left for sale by then.

The Ad in the ISGC program will read "Charlie Stepp Memorial from Friends of the Derby Room"

And with the coordinated efforts of Bob Callaway and also Tom Miller we are hopeful for a good get together of friends and great music.

Billy, Lynn, Ron or myself, Danny, have nothing to do with the building of Derby steel guitars, for those questions contact Derby Steel Guitar Inc.

I'll be there again this year. I spend more time in that room than in any other.
Thanks to all who are keeping the tradiitions and friendships going.

Danny, Billy, Ron & Lynn: What a thoughtful thing to do! Leave it to you four to do the right thing. We are thankful to hear that Lynn is feeling better but we are still keeping him in prayers. Billy, Roy & I can't wait to see you again at the convention too although this may be our last trip. Ron, you too must have a heart of gold like the others. I am sure of that. Danny, you are always there to give from your heart. We are all blessed to have you as a friend too! God willing we will see you all in Sept. Love to all of you and God's Blessings on each of you my friends. Laurie

Thanks to everyone willing to spend their time and efforts to keep the DERBY room going. It is one of my favorite things to do at the St. Louis show. Good to hear that Chubby will also be there. From the Show Me State, Jean DeVore and Larry Baker

This is good news! Thanks, Billy, Danny, Lynn, and Ron!! What a great tribute to Charlie. Charlie was my buddy: One year He gave me a "Derby" hat and later I stuck a piece of paper with "Fulawka" on it above the Derby and just casually walked around the Derby room. When Charlie saw it, He laughed His butt off!!!We had some good times. Lynn, Ron, if you need a wore-out guitar picker I'd love to pick a couple with you. Lonnie Portwood

I think this is a great tribute to Charlie. I was in
Mt Vernon when Tommy Miller began discussing this with Bob and the ball just rolled from there. It's a good thing...

This was real good news.
My best time in the 2007 convention was in the Derbyroom watching Don Helms and the guy he had with him that sang like Hank.
I do hope to make it this year.

Jim, That Hank sound alike's name is Chris Malpass. I think he is from North Carolina.

He and his brother have an act singing. I saw them on a PBS show. They go by the name The Malpass Brothers.

If you go to the Southern Illinois Productions web sight you will find pictures of Don, Chris, and Laney Hicks as well as others from that 2007 show.
