After messing around with PC based Sonar and all that it entails for the past couple of months I have decided to put an early mix out there of this first project, Cryin Time Again .

here is the link to the track over in the forum web section

http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=155653

I did record it all on Sonar 7 Home Studio, started out using EZdrummer but was not quite satisfied so went ahead and purchased Drums On demand wave loops of which I did use as well as a midi controller ( Maudio Oxygen8 ) for fills. Everything is recorded direct thru a low cost ART preamp which eventually will be replaced. Carter D10, E9th, E66, 52RI Tele, Strat and a 62RI Jbass. Vocals done with an MXL 2001 LD Condenser thru the cheap ART preamp.

In the middle of it all I did put aside the Tascam USB Interface due to latency issues which I could not resolve and went with an Maudio hard card which totally solved that issue.

Sonar was quite the learning experience and at the end of the day there is no way I would go back to a dedicated workstation unless I was recording at some remote location.

By the way, the PC setup for recording is dedicated and is not used for anything but recording, it has an internet connection but it is not active. There is nothing running in the background. It is a WIN XP machine, Athelon 64 Processor and 3 gig of ram.

So far no issues with stalling or lockups with Sonar.

Hey Tony,

Are you recording in 16 or 24 bit depth?

I've got Sonar 5 on my pc and for some reason the 24 bit recording choice is dimmed.

Hey Brian, I am recording in 16 bit format , for what I am doing , and the purpose of what I am doing, 24 bit would be overkill. I have also been recoding on the Yamaha workstation in 16 bit format as well, with my gear I can't even tell the difference other than file size !

Well Wayne, considering it took almost 3 months to do a simple tune ,that would be 30 months ! By then I would have totally forgotten the first 9 songs !

Thanks Wayne, we are not thinking a CD thing but hey, one never knows. Maybe a 10 track play behind the singer "classics" is not a bad idea. But I would have to get the project completion speed up, 30 months won't work ! Laughing

ps, plus I just bought a Dobro, so that's gonna take up a month of foolin' around all by itself !

Congrats Tony!

Brian, i've never used Sonar, but your 24 bit issue might be related to your soundcard. Either hardware or a setting issue.

Brian, on my audio setup menu I have several settings to choose from, 16 bit up to 24.My sound card is an MAudio 2496 2x2. I suspect Ulf is correct in that all hardware must be compatible, Sonar knows what sound devices are on board.
