Here comes the fire and brimstone!!
Obviously PF is a superstar but in my opinion John Hughey's rendition of this song at The Station was much better! No offense. Just my 2! Greg

To compare who is a better player based upon these videos is unfair. If Franklin had known it would get posted publicly he may have played it differently. Both are monster players. I have heard both play incredable music and love both for their styles. When you get to players at this level exactly how do you define who is better than who. I will admitt that this style of song was John's bread and butter. I miss him greatly.

You obviously like the older style of playing !!!James Kerr wrote:I have read posts regarding Mr. Franklin's tinkling with Dire Straits describing them as "The best Steel Guitar Solo ever" now that is just being silly.
James.
In my eyes thats one of the best steel solo's !
Not to sure that some of the others could make it sound so good and inventive !
Paul Franklin is on nearly every country cd today, says it all

How can someone be too much adored !?!?!James Kerr wrote:Well, I guess I will just have to take the brimstone too, I have always felt Mr. Franklin was a little too much adored, there are others much better to listen to, the back to back versions just confirm that, many right here on the Forum too.

I think this whole thread is silly in itself. (excapt for the music)
Two completely different players, two completely different styles and two different interpretations of the same song. Neither is better than the other.just personal tastes rule here !

I take Mr. Bobbe Seymores newsletter every week, he lives in the big place and has just been telling us that Country Music is finished in Nashville. Says it all.

As far as Paul Franklin goes...its the work he does on the C6 tuning that I like most. I have the George Strait LP he did back in the 80s and the work that Paul Franklin did on the song "If You Ain't Lovin,Then You Ain't Livin" now that steel guitar work on that one in my book and my opinion was THE EVER POPULAR PAUL FRANKLIN. And later on about the mid 1990s I bought the Shelby Lynn CD and Paul Franklin was awsome as could be on that one. I guess maybe I'm just a C6 fanatic lol.

Hi James ,Apologies , because of my bad grammar you could have picked me up wrong. I wasn,t commenting there on your last post I was only voicing an opinion that I preferred JH "s backing of this song as two versions were there.
No doubt if Mr Hughey had been paying this as a full solo tune he would be more than capable of playing many more embellishments .
