Pee Wee King Videos from 40's & 50's -- Me on steel

I have added to my website about 18 minutes of Pee Wee King videos from the 40's and 50's. These were digitized from old video tapes of TV shows, etc. I played steel on most of the songs, but those before 1946 had Don Davis on steel and those during 1951 & 1952 (while I was in Korea) had Bobby Koefer on steel.

Edited to say that most of the "videos" consist of showing still photos on screen while the audio is playing -- i.e., most are not like motion pictures.

Billy,

Pee Wee was Polish. His family emigrated to the U.S. when he was a kid. His polish name was Julius Frank Anthony Kuczynski. He began using the name "Pee Wee King" when he was playing with Gene Autry's band on WHAS in Louisville, Kentucky. I seem to recall that most of his family changed their last name to King. On official papers, etc., I think Pee Wee usually signed "Frank King."

I have a ten inch 33 rpm promo from rca ( a little bit about myself) by pee wee, the other side has, introduction by marilyn galenter, editor of who's who in western stars, then he sings " tennessee tango" no steel on it though. Joe

Roy,
I started out playing accordion and piano with a country-western band in 1955 and grew up trying to get the great sounds that you created. Some 50 years later I decided to take up the pedal steel....and just listening to you play makes me want to practice all the more. Thanks for posting those really great videos.

Roy ; I wanted to hear you so badly, but my " Real Player " doesn't allow every thing to play. It will come on and play about 3 seconds and then stops and tells me it has lost the clip. I have " DSL " but for some reason, will not allow these " Real Player videos or Clips " to play out.. I really wanted to hear you doing your thing..Bernie

P.S. I/m not a " PRO " on these puters; the U-Tubes come thru great..

Roy, that's not only classic country and great steel playing, but those tracks are of historical significance. I also have audio from several of the late Henson Cargill's television programs from when I was playing steel for him, but I don't know how to convert them to a format for playing them on the Forum. Thank all of you so much for your kind remarks and for listening to some of our ole antiquated stuff from 50 to 60 years ago. Those were the fun days of my music career.

The only two of the original band still walking the planet are my good friend, Bobby Koefer, and I.

Here's one of the cuts from our "Swing West" album where Bobby and I did the "twin" work.

Hello Roy great stuff!! Did you and Bobby Koefer play twin steels on all the 8 tracks of this great album? I have the original 10" lp, I believe there is also a later version of the album Swing West as a 12" lp with more tracks. I just love the early 50's Pee Wee King stuff. Have you also played on Redd Stewart's King and RCA recordings?
