I think I sing in tune but, rather than pitch-control to render me acceptable to a voracious public appetite, I think I'll be going with MSN 'Paint Shop' for my 10" x 8"s.....

First I'll make sure that my first single has plenty of steel on it - remember, there are some folks here who say music isn't music without a steel guitar; everything else should take care of itself.

This is a big relief - I was starting to get a little worried about what future I had as a jobbing steel-player. This will take the pressure off.

It's who used who to get where their at. And then, it's you better have something to give back to who got you there are your out. It's like Doug Supernaw helping the Dixie Chicks get in and than he got cut out. Thanks to Randy Owens & Alabama Group business partners,that who Kenny Chesney is under. Talent is only as good as the ears who hear it. When I hear and see all the artist that most don't like,how come they are all on top? Keep on truckin' Kenny and have fun on your new boat.

I don't think Kenny is good looking at all.
"Down The Road" went #1 alot of people like it, including me.

I think that someone once commented that most people don't care if an entertainer looks like Frankenstein; it's their voice and/or musicianship that "$ells". This, IMO, was an exagerated analogy, but when I'm listening, the sound is the salient factor, IMO.

I think people "like" what the industry programs them to like. I've often heard women talk and drool over some entertainer, about how good looking he is, etc.... but if they passed him on the road with a shovel in his hand, they wouldn't even notice. Every now and then, someone has both good voice and good looks. Connnie Smith comes to mind.

I did see the performance in question along with another he tried to do with John Melloncamp(??Spelling)I believe it was...and I'm not really much of a fan of him either. At least John showed him how to be "Professional". This is meant to be constructive...Kenny Cheesie, me boy....YOU SUCK!! (I mean this in the nicest way.)

Kenny is making more money than all the worlds steel players combined. Can't blame him for that. If the industry wanted to make me a wealty star, I'd let them.

It doesn't matter if Kenny uses a steel or fiddles. His fans won't notice.

Well, I play a few KC songs with two bands I work with, one on Telecaster, at first I didn't even know they were KC songs, they are very good songs.

So what should I do now, not play them because I know know they are KC songs ?

I'm kinda with Joe M. on this one, I just play the songs I'm asked to play, if we have a discussion ahead of time there are easily several songs that I would pull from the song lists that I don't like, they are not even KC songs !

In my mind, not that there's all that much left, there are easily half dozen great songs that KC sings, he didn't write them, some very good writers did, I'm not going to let KC get in the way of a great song that people like to hear.

It's bad enough that bands don't want to hire a Steel Player, now we are adding another element,

"I'll take the gig as long as we don't play any KC songs "

There are quite a few Kenny songs with pedal steel, like "I Lost It", She's Got It All"-features a great steel solo, "What I Need To Do", The Tin Man"-features steel in the first verse,the chorus, and there's a little steel turnaround before the last few lines. Never Gonna Feel Like That Again"-that song has a really cool steel intro, "There Goes My Life" features great steel in the chorus, When Kenny plays "Back Where I Come From" live, you can hear steel in the chorus, during the fiddle solos after the chorus, even in "No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems", you can hear some good steel in the second verse if you listen really close and "How Forever Feels" features some great steel parts, and you can also hear steel in his song "That's Why I'm Here".

It's not so cool to read the love and respect that so many have for a Artist who gives a Steel player a job. But,again when I read it,most of them are not in the Music Business anyway. So,I guess that's why they write what they write in their own opinion of what talent and career makers should sound like and A B C D E F G. No wonder why we can get the pros to comment about much on this matter. They'll be out of a job. Chesney,help me! Where Dale Morris when I need him?

It has amazed me that Buddy Miller is unknown to most -- and probably alot of people here, yet a guy like Chesney who looks like Howdy Doody on steroids and sings like ... well anyhow, an absolute mediocrity can make a gazillion bucks and Buddy and Julie Miller are doing backup for others...
