Long ago I commented that Tommy Roots should be in the SGHOF. He wrote a lot of Tab, years ago, some of in the form of "which strings to raise or lower on which fret", and this may have been before "standardized copedents". I have hunted high and low for the tab for this piece. Tommy, I believe was going to put out another teaching video, C6th, but I don't guess he got around to it. I even called a couple of places in Corpus Christi to see if they had it to no avail. Question is, did Curly ot Tommy come up with this first? I believe that Tommy retired as a school teacher, but was involved with the steel guitar most of his life. Hopefully some of Tommy's close friends will come up with some answers here about Tommy's life in music. I never had the pleasure of meeting Tommy.

Tommy Roots and his partner, Carson Wells, were an inspiration to a lot of Texas' Steelers. Tommy was like another Chalker on C6th and Carson was and is an excellent E9 player. They put together a series of Vhs efforts and this is one of them. I don't know who has a complete set of these lessons but I found another VG Hester put on UTube with Carson demonstrating his E9 prowess:

Thanks for giving us an opportunity to hear one of the best (I don't think anyone really knew how far along Tommy had progressed with the steel--I have talked many times with Carson who made Tommy's last steel and he told me that guitar was "completely out of the box"). There have been efforts to get it back but I've lost track of it. Maybe someone on the forum knows something about it.

Tommy, was A true friend, A great player, and A Super,Super nice friendly person. I think of Tommy often....

Tommy's courses were the first video courses I ever saw. He was a great picker and a great guy.

I was told that Tommy would give away a lot of stuff at psg shows. I sure wish someone would tab this piece just like Tommy picks it; I'm sure interested. I even communicated with a music store in one of the Scandinavian countries who told me they had all of Tommy's stuff, so I guess he never got around to doing that last C-6 instruction course.

Tommy was super on E9 and an incredible monster on C6. I always called him the master of the boowah pedal. He really knew when to hit the boowah. He was the same quality of a person as he was on his playing. A super person and I was proud to be his friend. I miss Tommy. Jody.
