Free Speedy West Album Download

Post by Isaac Stanford »

This was posted recently at Scratchy's Attic. It's the album Guitar Spectacular and it's pretty spectacular.

This is why CD sales are so bad. I stock this in the Forum catalog on cassette and CD, but someone is giving it away as a free download. :\

Hardly anyone buys CDs anymore. I feel like a relic.

I got a friendly email from Isaac saying that he didn't intend to be undercutting my business, and "Please
feel free to delete the post."

I could, but I won't. This is a good example of what's happening in the music business today. Neighborhood record stores are failing right and left, and video rental stores will be next. It's the wave of the future.

If all you want to do with the music is put it on your iPod (a temporary storage device IMHO) or listen through your computer speakers, then by all means go ahead and download it. But if you want a solid copy to put on the shelf, something that you can grab 10 years from now and play, something tangible, then buy the CD or tape. Your choice.

Either way, this is great music that all steel players should hear. Speedy was a master with a unique style. Everybody should be familiar with his musical legacy.

i am guilty to a degree but try and find a copy to buy.i have a good collection of steel albums and cd"s and cassetts, some 33/s i have recorded on to CD's to preserve the sound of the old records. I don't have an I-Pod or any of the new stuff.its cd's or radio,i have a cd for sale with B0b and other places and i never made, as many of us do ,my money back for what it cost to do the cd.we have to stem this or we will all be out of work or not worth the effort to even record a cd.we all lose in that case. Some of you depend on music as your living and family support.i'm lucky i dont but it helps me afford to play a cheap paying job to help other artists out from time to time, Imho. :(
Mullen G 2 D 10 8 & 6 , Emmons D 10 8& 6 Evans Amps , Revelation,MPX1,Steward PA 1000 rack, Steelers Choice Cross country Seat ,Hilton Pedal, Curt Mangan strings . When everything is coming your way, you're in the wrong lane.

Speedy's most spectacular and refined album indeed.
Also has that clean late 50's "Capitol Records" sound.

I wished "West Of Hawaii" would come out on CD... or for a free download ;) someday.

I think the days of rotating music media are about counted. What has already become evident with video and even DVD, must hold true for sound media too.
Before my last move, I ripped all my CD's to mp3. Got a 64Gig stick with more than just music on it.
Stores will become not just a relic, but forgotten. It's the download age.
