DFW Steel Player Available

Post by Jim Smith »

My day job ended at the end of last year, and my current band, Sweatin' Bullets, doesn't have many gigs lined up yet for the new year.

I'll be glad to do some fill in work in or near the DFW area, and will consider working with a full-time band, at least until I find a new day job.

I will consider any and all jobs, and can provide some cool keyboard, sax, and horn sounds with my MIDI rig, if appropriate for the job.

Jim is one of the best players out there. He would make a great addition to your band. Jody.

Jody...you are exactly right.....I've known Jim for many years....in his early years of playing steel he had one of the best teachers, too Milo "T" Jellison from up in Maine....and it wasn't long and he was even outplaying him.....Jim will be an asset to any group that he'd be involved with.....very capable. So you guys out in the DFW area......get Jim some jobs..........HAL

Thanks Tommy, but at 3 1/2 hours from here, Austin is too far away for me to consider.

Jim Who?

Post by Will Brumley »

You mean Jim Smith is still picking? I have some work from time to time down here but its a bit far from you. I bought myself a steel on Saturday. It looks real nice. Now I just have to figure out which side to set on. Folks, all joking aside....if you have any doubt about Jim Smith's playing I will tell you he does a heck of a job and I would hire him anyday to cover any level of job. We worked together on numerous jobs and it was always a pleasure. Holler sometime big guy.

Hi Jim,

Give Johnathon Bell with Pony Express a call. He likes steel and has used me whenever I had a weekend off from my regular band.

They play mostly around Dallas.

His number is 214-226-5208

Bump! My regular band only plays once or twice a month, but so far they don't have anything booked until September.

I still don't have a day job and will consider any and all music gigs. I'll even consider traveling out of the DFW area, if the money is right.

Hi Jim
You might check here. Jerry (MAC) Cook is always looking. Dick Wood knows him and has played for him.
And he's kind of a nice guy to boot.

Hey Leigh, good to see you on here! David, thanks for the lead. I'm working on a steady job in the Fort Worth area, but if it falls through, I'll definitely check with Jerry/Mac.

Thought I had something going, but after one rehearsal and two gigs, the band broke up!

I'm still in the same situation as my first post, and will entertain any and all offers.

There seems to be a lot of DFW steel players looking for work lately, so I guess I'd better keep my post near the top too.

I'll drive up to two hours each way if the money is right. For example, I have recently played as far away as Stephenville and Mingus.
