This was such a sad thing to read about early this morning.
Like many others, hearing Tom play, inspired me to play the steel too.
He played the most beautiful music I had ever heard back in the 60's.
Now he's with God, but will forever be in our hearts, and on our minds.
Our condolences to Rolene and family. May God bless you.

It was with great sadness that I learned of Tom's passing this morning. I had the honor of meeting Tom on several occasions, and this Giant of a Gentleman always made me feel at ease. I have fond memories of these times and I always walked away knowing that I had been in the presence of not only a Legend in this great community of steel guitar brethren, but also a true Gentleman who actually cared about those who idolized him and gave so much of himself. For this, I feel so Blessed. My heart goes out to his family in this time of such great loss. May Tom Go Rest High On That Mountain.

This is indeed a very sad day. Tom will be missed by family, friends and the Steel Guitar family as well.
I always looked forward to hearing him play and speaking to him when the opportunity was there. He was always willing to share his expertise with guitar set up and helped many expand their knowledge of the instrument in his kind, personable style. Many years ago as a young player just starting out, I would spend many hours listening to Tom play his signature sound on Buck Owens records. When Tom was President of Z.B. Custom I purchased my first Z.B. double 10. His sound was an inspiration to me and challenged me to pursue higher standards on the instrument.
My sincere condolences to his family.

This is really tough news to take. When I got my first steel (a Sho~Bud Maverick) the first thing I done was went scrambling for all of the Buckaroo and Buck Owen's albums I could find. A friend of mine had a bunch of them and he like to never got them back! I wanted to learn from one of the best. Of course, I've never come close! Enough good things cannot be said about this man. He was a giant among men as a person and a musician and he never even realized it.
[quote="Dave Van Allen"]I've made my feelings about Maestro Brumley's playing very clear in many posts over the years. I only met him once, but it was a quite significant event to me.
Dave, one time is all you had to meet him. After that he always recognized you a had the time to talk to you.
I'm so glad to have had several conversations with him.
Rolene, know that you and the family are in our prayers. God will be with you in the coming days.

My heart goes out to Rolene and the family. Tom has
been an inspiration to me more than anyone could know. He believed in me and encouraged me which led
to him letting me fill in for him on his show in Branson. His touch, tone, technique and smoothness, made him a great musician and more than just a great steel guitarist. Tom will be missed always and I am
greatly honored to have been his friend.
