I can't get this link to work. Go to Ebay.ca and type in pedal steel guitar (all categories). Thanks.

WEll I went to Ebay and typed in "vintage Shobud" and it came up.
And there is not one thing on that steel that is shobud....so NO it is NOT a shobud.
Head stocks look MSA-ish...but I'm not the most familiar with other steel brands.

Yeah, it does look rather pieced-together, doesn't it? If I'm correct, the changer looks different than what is normally on a Shobud.

Even if there were anything useful about this steel (not useful in a Sho Bud way) I wouldn't do business with this seller who is the worst of the worst of fraudulent scam trash----he is trying to mask his fraud by claiming that the person he bought it from says it is a Sho Bud--not him. I despise the ebay trash sellers that pretend that they are ignorant. This guy is just a few steps away from indictable.
Stay away.

This seller comes across very unprofessionally, and downright nasty about anyone who disagrees with the authenticity of that guitar.

I wonder who he is calling a "pesty little ebayer"?
Here is his latest update. It's good for a chuckle:

Please note: I have a pesty little ebayer who is saying that I am being fraudulent in my description of this guitar as a Shobud. I have stated that the man I bought it from told me it was. There are those who are of the opinion it is not a Shobud. Whether it is or is not, it is being sold with no reserve. If you think the guitar is not priced fairly, simply do not bid. That is the beauty of the ebay marketplace. I am not misrepresenting anything, I state clearly in the description, that I bought it as such. Nowhere on the guitar is it labeled Shobud. For those of you interested in the guitar, it is a great instrument that is fairly priced. For the nasty person who is sending me harassing emails, please reinsert your head into your anus, where it belongs.

I'm 99.9% it is a custom home made build steel guitar...cause you can see the holes on the fingers on the changer are not even.

Ease up guys, everyone is not a Sho Bud expert like some of you, but that doesn't mean it's a scam. The seller has an excellent feedback record, and he qualifies his comments by admitting he is only passing on what he was told. So evidently there are some steel players out there who are less than honest - HORROR OF HORRORS. Like he says, if it's too high, or the description is not 100% correct, you don't have to bid.

The item evidently is listed in Canada also, hence the Canadian dollar conversion.

MSA Millennium, Legend, and Studio Pro, Reese's restored Universal Direction guitar, as well as some older MSAs, several amps, new and old, and a Kemper Powerhead that I am really liking. Recently added a Zum D10, a Mullen RP, and a restored blue Rose, named the "Blue Bird" to the herd. Also, I have acquired and restored the plexiglass D10 MSA Classic again that was built as a demo in the early '70s. I also added a '74 lacquer P/P, with wood necks.

I agree, the seller may not be trying to scam anyone, but I think I'll leave that guitar alone. I would rather pay more for a Shobud with all the original parts.

Further more, the reason for the Canadian dollar conversion is because Ebay.ca is Canadian Ebay...hence the Canadian dollar conversion. The conversion is there simply to inform us Canucks the actual price that we would have to pay for items listed elsewhere.

Please be advised that I am the "pesty little ebayer" that he is talking about.

I advised him that his guitar is not a "Vintage Sho~Bud" and you can't believe the vile, abusive and vulgar e-mail I received back from him.

This is part of it:
"People like you make the world a miserable place. You are probable one of those sniveling little know it all types. You think you are God's gift to the world, when you really are no more than a boil on the a-- of humanity. Every now and again, one of your type will raise your ugly little head, my little puss filled boil, go screw yourself."

I reported him to e-bay but I doubt if anything will come of it. :(

Erv; is that exactly what you wrote to him??
This steel is certainly not a shobud; but looking through it; it looks like a player and set up fine, I don't see any reason it wouldn't play and sound fine for that price.

Ricky,
Yes, that is what I wrote him.
I told him that I didn't know what kind of a guitar he had there but it was definitely NOT a Sho~Bud.

What is ironical is that in his posting he says:
"Please ask questions and volunteer any info on the guitar if you know more about it than I do".
I'm not saying that the guitar is not worth the $350 that is presently bid on it.
What bothers me is his listing it as a "Vintage Sho~Bud".
That would be like listing a Ford Escort for sale and calling it a Cadillac Escalade! :whoa:

I think everyone on this Forum should pull up his posting, "ask him a question" and advise him of the same.

Maybe he was just having a bad hair day! :D

The eBay listing calls it a 'Shobud' in no uncertain terms

Post by Don Wright »

The eBay listing title says "Vintage Shobud Pedal Steel guitar Nashville E9 Tuning".The title is not vague. It is not until you read the copy on the auction page that "qualifies" his description.

The guitar may be worth even more than $350, but the seller should not be lying in his auction title ("Vintage Shobud Pedal Steel") and using it as bait to lure viewers into looking at his item that does not match the description he posted.

And then he goes on to say "The old guy told me it was a Shobud etc". Not very forthright IMHO. Especially that HE NOW KNOWS that it isn't a Sho-Bud or "Shobud' but he would rather call people names than fix his misleading auction title.

Don,
Yes, you are exactly right.
He could have qualified his listing somewhat but he came on SO strong with "Vintage Sho~Bud".
If he wasn't sure as to the guitar's origin he could have just listed it as "Pedal Steel Guitar" or some such.

It looks like no shobud i have ever seen. It looks that the right front leg is bent and the pedal rack is skewed. The changer fingers aren't even and the tuning nut housing or whatever you call it looks cut out with a hacksaw. The endplates you can see where they were put together. The pedal rods are bent. Never saw any professional steel that was built this poorly. Heck, that guys erector set steel looks better than this one.
We live to play another day.

And the undercarriage looks horrible...ready to fall apart any second when you start playing it. I've been tempted to bid on it. Someone please tell me not to.
