For over 6 hours yesterday I was in total awe of a great young steel guitar player (21 years old) -- Tyler Hall. I had my '79 Zum sitting right in front of his new Mullen G2 (great guitars!) and no matter what I played (or what I tried to play HA), when it came to Tyler's turn, he whipped me good...yes, real good! And you guessed it...I loved it! Very Happy

Why? Because I've watched this young man mature over the past number of years first as a fine young man (I gave him the nickname "The Kid" but now it's "The Man") and secondly as a super great musician! As I watched him take his turn playing, I found myself reflecting on how far he has advanced as a player.
He has taste, tone, touch and timing that is equal to many seasoned pro's. And has he come a long way on the C6th (living with the legend Terry Bethel has not hurt)!! Cool

We laughed as he told me how shaky and nervous he was when he came in third at Scotty's talent contest -- he said his hands and knees were shaking so hard people thought he was waving to them! He said he was soooo scared he was grabbing at the strings but it was like they were not there!

By the way, a lot of the sound traxs we played were from the old standard 4/4 shuffles to many kicking top 40 pop songs he never played before.

With great young players like Tyler, Austin Stewart and so many more young ones, the steel guitar has a different but wonderful future! Now this 'ol steeler must run (crawl) and rest up from from my whippin' before Tyler calls for another jam and whippin' time. Wink

Aint that the truth...I just quit playing around the boy...Isnt it against the law now for your kid to whip you?...Or is that backwards?...

Tyler is a GREAT young man. He has come a long way since I first heard him. Like you said living with Terry doesn't hurt any. I know Terry helped Austin a lot the few times they got to be together. They live so far apart that it's hard to get together. As far as I was concerned, Tyler should have gotten 1st instead of 3rd in St. Louis. We were sure rooting for him. Austin loves to play with Tyler. The set they did in a side room in St. Louis ( VERY LATE AT NIGHT ) was very enjoyable. Keep up the good work Tyler!!!!!!!!!!!

You guys are just too much! Ya'll sure know how to make a fella feel good. I really appreciate all the compliments. I've really been blessed by being around great players and being able to learn something from them. Bill, the first time I heard you play you absolutly knocked me out, and you still do everytime I get to hear you. You can really burn up a steel (or at least a pickup) Laughing . Mickey, I hope we get to jam again sometime. I really enjoyed it. Thanks for the pic Bill, I was just looking for some fertalizer for the flowers. Laughing Ms. Donna, tell Twiddle Dee to get his butt over here so we can pick again. Buck, I'll only run you over if you're between me and the cookie tray.

Now Tim... If you can't get you a Mullen, then just hang on to that old dinosaur you got. It may be worth a couple dollars one day. Very Happy

Thanks guys!
