Bob,

The guitar the Pete and Buddy both owned was a permanent not a fingertip.
Zumsteel steel guitars, Telonics and Peavey amplifiers, GHS strings.

"Forever" was a million seller for pete in 1964, to anyones knowledge has any other steel player sold a million with an instrumental ?

no one...
A couple possibilities to check on would be
'Sleepwalk' by Santo & Johnny and 'I Can
See Clearly, Now' by Lloyd Green.
