Wow! Boo,
A nice site, and it sure brought back some fond memories. I believe (if I'm not mistaken) I still have one unopened LP of "Tom Cattin" tucked away.
I had two, opened one and wore it out from listening and learning the songs on it. Ya know, the old hard way a doing things. Start, Stop, lift the old arm up and try to get back to where ya were, over and over.
Tom was always, one of my favorites. A Master Craftsman at his trade, and smooth as silk. I'd say he was possibly the biggest influence on my style of playing. Listening to his "Together Again" I believe was awesome to many others as well.
I have a 45 RPM, here that came out with probably four or five players, each doing their rendition of the same song. "Together Again." Tom and others, may well remember that cut.. Each did a great job on it, but the end result, was when Tom came back in for the last cut. The hair raised and stood on end.

I have to tell you guys a story. In 1975 I bought a brand new turquois blue D-10 Emmons. It looked exactly like the one Hank Corwin was playing with Jim Ed Brown & Helen Cornelius. Well, in 1978 I traded it in at a music store in Temple, Texas for another steel. I was working with Ronnie Mack & Gene Morgan at National Hall in Killeen, Texas 6 nights a week. One night there was a guest star but I cannot remember who the star was. I remember walking in and there was a blue Emmons up on the stage and it sure looked like the one I had. I found the steel picker and asked him where he got it and low and behold it was my old steel. I asked his name and he said Tom Brumley. I was totally shocked. Here was one of the greatest playing my old steel. I believe he said he was living in Gatesville, Texas at the time. He talked with me like he was my next door neighbor. Super guy! I sat there and listened the whole time he played. My old Emmons never sounded so good. I guess it was the right place at the right time. What a memory!
