On December 17 Mozilla released two updated versions of Firefox: 3.0.5 and 2.0.0.19, fixing 8 serious vulnerabilities.

If you use Firefox and have it set to receive updates automatically, they will be downloaded and you will be prompted to restart the browser. If you prefer to perform manual updates you should go to the Firefox for Windows (En) home page and download the current version. If you have a different OS or language, go here.

If you are updating a series 2 Firefox browser this is your final update. All support for version 2.x ends in January and there will be no more security updates issued for that series. Furthermore, the anti-phishing filter has been removed from version 2.0.0.19, due to changes made by Google; the maintainer of that filter.

FF 2 users should begin testing Firefox 3.x now or risk using an orphaned browser come January. Some, or all add-ons may not be compatible with series 3 unless they have been updated by their authors, which most have been.

NB: When I upgraded to 3.0.5, all extensions, plug-ins, add-ons and themes carried over from 3.0.4.

I have been steadfastly refusing repeated attempts by Firefox to get me to go with FF 3. Guess I can't hold out any longer! Can I simply install it over my existing FF 2.0.0.18?

Yes. While it is upgrading to version 3/x it will scan your add-ons, themes and plug-ins and notify you about the ones that are incompatible. It will offer to search for updates to these accessories. Allow this, then install all updated add-ons. Some will not be maintained anymore and will never be compatible will newer technologies.

SpoofStick is among the extensions that have been abandoned by their authors. This is because FF 3.x has built-in anti-spoofing controls, plus the Google based anti-phishing and web threat filter.
