Hello everybody, I'm a new member, from the UK, and have been playing lap steel occasionally for 25 years, and I once played an old sho-bud maverick pedal steel on a record, but that's another story! What I'm interested in is any information on serial numbers or dating information for the earliest wood body E-150 or EH-150 Gibson models. I have two, and the earliest one has a painted white Gibson logo, and the sides are joined in two parts, near the neck joint, not right on it. Its also a different shape where the neck meets the body. The pattern of the dot inlays is simpler, and generally when you look closely, most details are different to the later 1936 one I have. The screws that hold the back on, around the edge, are all the large headed ones, the same size as the central ones. The serial number on this early one reads 433-1 and it has the tweed case. Most of the reference books don't have enough detail, and I don't know if this is an E-150 or an EH-150. Or when it was made. I'm not an earlier is better person, but I think it may be significant historically if it is a very early one. Can anybody help out? Thanks!

This is a 1936 EH-150. In 1937, they began putting the knobs on the same side. An E-150 has a metal body.

I have one here that's s/n 501-24, a seven string with a Christian pickup. I wondered if the -24 meant a production number.

This is a 1938 EH150. You want to hang on to that one -- cs

David, you should subscribe to our magazine and you'll find out that there are MANY players in the UK some over 80 years old and still learning..
Subscribing to our magazine wouldn't hurt either..
