| I've got a Bandit 112 that only works when I plug into the return jack. Neither input works, except that you can barely get some sound, hardly enough to hear it in the speaker. Any idea what's wrong? |

Another thing to try:
Plug a guitar cable from the send to the return jack.
Sometimes the "normally closed" jacks on the send will get a little funky after not being used over time. Exercising the jack by inserting and removing the plug several times can restore the connection.
Cool little amps! I've got one.

Like Steve said,
Put a short cable from your send to your return jack...then plug your guitar into one of the input jacks.
I have one of these amps, and this has worked for me. If you have those send/return jacks replaced it will fix the problem. But using a cable is cheaper.

| No, It got loud as hell for a second. I pushed the effects level and resonance buttons in and out and they were scratchy. It would work for a second and then go out again. |

I'm not familiar with this model but I am familiar with this Peavey issue. Take the chassis out of the cabinet , go get some Radio Shack or other brand contact cleaner. Really clean all the plugs and connections, inputs, out's, effect sends etc, I mean really clean them. If there is a reverb connector don't forget that one too, both ends.
When cleaning the input/send jacks use a 1/4 male plug in and out to make sure the cleaner is getting in there , especially those double jacks with two center positions. If you can get a soft small brush use that as well.
The volume worked for a few seconds, thats a great indicator, this issue is fairly common with older Peavey amps, Nashvlle 400's and such.
I generally clean my N400 once a year regardless of whether it needs it or not. It's routine now.

Can't your wife hold the effects level button in for you ? 
Ahh..take it apart and clean all the pots and buttons too, this one is clearly dirty. I forgot to mention that above,

| Still having problems. Seems to be in the effects button near the loop. Cleaned all inputs. It works as long as I'm holding the button in and I have the loop connected. |
