Steel Guitar Podcast?

Post by Bryan Daste »

Does anyone know what happened to the Steel Guitar Podcast? It shows up in an iTunes search, but no episodes are available. The steelguitarpodcast.com website is no longer up. Are the old episodes (circa 2005) still online somewhere?

Wow look what I found! http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=steel%20guitar

I never knew these PODcasts existed until I accidently surfed into this cool site and did a "steel guitar" search.

Cool! I found episodes 9-18. Were you able to get the earlier episodes?

No Bryan, all I saw was what's on that page I linked to.

I couldn't get over how unusual it seemed that a pair of seemingly young people from Mexico City would put on a weekly broacast series in tribute to the steel guitar. I wonder what happened to them? Very cool!

The Steel Guitar Podcast was being done by forumite Kiyoshi Osawa and his wife, here in Mexico City, as mentioned. Yes they are relatively young, at least from my perspective... :) ... both very intelligent, talented, and great sense of humor.

I haven't heard from Kiyoshi for a couple years, but about that time he discontinued the podcast he said he was just getting too busy with work and other matters to keep it up. Kiyoshi's dayjob is doing audio for TV and radio commercials, he has his own studio, a very nice one... he has managed to work his steel guitar into the music bed of several TV commercials in the past several years, which I think is great.

Kiyoshi had only been playing steel for a few years when he started the podcast but was learning very quickly. He's the only other pedal steeler I know of in Mexico City.

Last I heard, Kiyoshi was playing steel with a band called Thelmo Castelló y los Soundalikes, you can hear some clips on their myspace page here: http://www.myspace.com/thelmocastello

It would be great to hear the podcast again, or hear from Kiyoshi... he hasn't been active in the forum in some time.
