Doug Johnson plays Great.....What Tone!
Doug is from Brantford, Ontario and just plays so perfect with such sweet tone and touch! Very refreshing player and he's Canadian! HA HA. I was born in Winnipeg and lived in Brantford in the mid 80's and my parents live a few miles from their in Cambridge.
Check Doug Johnson playing a Vince Gill song...

Bill: I'd say your discription hits the nail right on the head !! Too many times I pull up something and cannot even listen to it; probably because it reminds me of my own playing... This reminds me of almost every great player at one time or another. Another of these surprizes afforded us by The FORUM !!

Doug is indeed a great player, and super nice person.
Did you know that song, and many others by great Canadian players are available for purchase right here, in b0b's shop?
The CDs are called "Canadian Steel" vol 1 and 2.

Forum member, friend, and great player Bob Taillefer produced them, and has a few tracks too.

Wow!! I must say that Doug has come a long way since the first licks he played 25 years ago! It shows where diligent practice and love for the steel takes you. I was floored by the sound on Kindly...
And to think that the guy practically lives next door.
It pleases me to see all the great steel players in this part of the country.

Guys, thank you so much for your kind words. I am really lucky to have a great bunch of players around me to inspire me.
What an age we live in. There once was a time we didn't know if anyone heard or appreciated what we do. I appreciate all of you fellas and look forward to meeting or hearing each of you sometime soon.
Bruce, I'll need that stuff you lifted back.......hahaha!!
Thanks guys.

"What tone" is right. Just heard him play for the first time today, what a great player. I heard his name for the first time last year through Jim & Cindy Dixon who winter here, Doug plays steel with them in Canada. Ran into them last night for the first time this year and they gave me their CD Texas Influence with Doug playing steel and dobro. What a great touch and great tone!

Re: Great Player!
Hey Randy, matter of fact I just talked to Jim and asked him, he couldn't remember what guitar he used, he said he had quite a few. Whatever it was it sounded great to me. And no doubt the guitar was the least of it, I'm sure Doug can make anything sing.Randy Gilliam wrote:Sounds Like What all Of us are after, Was That a Emmons? This Guy Sounds Great, Randy G.
And now I hear there's a chance he may come down for a couple of weeks to visit, I ain't missin' that. C'mon down Doug, take a break from winter.
