We made the pilgrimage to Bakersfield last night to see Ray Price again. If you've never seen him and have a chance, don't miss it. He is living history, almost 83 now, and still sings incredibly well, with a great band, the kind you just don't see anymore!
Jim Loessberg is playing steel now, and had the holy grail, a black (is there any other color?) wraparound with 10 knee levers! And it sounded incredible, straight into a little Peavey amp, with wonderful high end clarity and the "twang" factor I associate with early Emmons P/P work. |

I saw RP in his heyday with, among others, Donny young, Shorty Lavender, and Jimmy Day. I will never forget it. |

Im glad Jim's using that axe. I busted my hump to fit all 10 levers under there for him w/the requested changes....the wide pedal spread makes loading the old ones up rather difficult. Also great to hear that The Chief is still rendering in the superlative, not that Im at all surprised |

MIke I sure enjoyed your performance with Ray. We were sitting about two rows back right in front of you. I didn't get to hear the last song as my wife was in too much pain and we had to leave; sure would have liked to have said hello to you too. |

There's a pretty funny story about Jim's 10 knee levers, but he'll have to tell it I talked to JDM the other day and he had caught the show in Hanford,Ca. and said it was great as well!
Them 'boys can sing and pick now....be sure to catch them when they're in your area.

I'm spending the winter in Yuma Az. at this time and got to see Ray Price and a "GREAT" band last week. When you have a 10 piece group all doing what they're supposed to do, backing up a "LEGEND" who still has "THE VOICE", it's an experience to treasure.

Mike , your stint with RP was nothing less than spectacular! And your timing was great as well. Your being on the DVD will document the event forever! We know it was hard for you behind the scenes to work that tour.

Brandon,
you'll get your $$'s worth on Friday! I believe that Ray and The Cowboys are using extra strings and horns on that one, similar to the Ryman show earlier this year. I know that alot of steel players would rather hear mostly the shuffles and western swing, but when you hear/play those tunes live with full orchestration it'll give you chill-bumps. Jim is definitely the guy for that show. His musical knowledge far exceeds mine, and thats pretty important in such a setting as you'll witness on Friday. Not being a reader myself, I tended to fumble around alot in attempting to stay out of the way of the orchestra. Jim dont have that problem |

Would love to get to hear Jim with Ray. I got to hear Mike with him a couple of times. If you miss
Ray Price while he is still touring, you can say goodbye to something that will never come around again. Real class with plenty of steel exposure.
Like seeing Buck and the Buckeroos or Ernest Tubb and
the Troubadours in their prime. _________________ LeGrande II, Nash. 112, Fender Twin Tone Master, Session 400, Harlow Dobro, R.Q.Jones Dobro |
