| great bouncy playing by jc..this clip shows the difference between country music then and now..instruments take their turns and play the song..........but more than that, there were so many smart ass guys in the business that it was fun and kept everything on the edge. faron, marty robbins, del reeves, roger miller, jimmy dean, mel tillis..you had to be paying attention and on your game if you didn't want to look like a fool next to these guys! musta been something in the water!! |

That steel playing just makes me flat out smile! Love the whiney cat noise after his solo and that lick at 1:55 is NUTS!

| Shoot, I thought it was a young Chris Ivey. I used to own an Emmons that belonged to Jimmie. Had his name in it, cept it was mis-spelled. Yup... same as that Bigsby that was floating around a few years ago. Some people just cannot spel... -L- |

Wow, guys, doesn't this kind of playing bring back lots of memories of Good Country music.
I thot that was our man , Jimmy , when first seeing the U-Tube with Faron. I remember seeing Jimmy working with Buck Owens one time over the border in Kingston , Ontario. They allowed Jimmy the chance to play " The Orange Blossom Special "; First I had heard it played on steel guitar. What a fantastic version by this great steel man. Another show with Loretta Lynn, I sat in the middle of a Race Track, at a county fair , in the pouring down RAIN. The band had a roof over their heads, but I didn't. One of the best C/W Shows I had ever seen.. And Jimmy made it worth the while of getting soaked..Bernie

Looking again those are Jimmies mitts. I didn't meet Jimmy until the early eighties, he sure took on a different look as he got older. I would have never guessed that was him!

I have to say "Hats Off to YouTube". I got into steel in the early 70s, from the rock side, Poco,Dead,NRPS,Byrds. At the time I had no idea who these "other" guys were, or what country music was all about. I was living in St Louis and got hooked up with Scotty, who is responsible for exposing me to these great legends. I was fortunate to get to meet some and hear them play, but I did not grow up listening to their music. I am now playing in a band that is concentrating on older "traditional country" music. YouTube allows me to watch many of the legends doing their thing of the time. All from the comfort of my home! What an insight! Really don't know where else I would have this opportunity.
