"Go Rest High" with John Hughey

Post by Mike Headrick »

This song is posted on Charles Tilley's site under my name. John plays the second verse and chorus as only John could have done it. He was the master of touch, tone, and emotion in my opinion. This track will long stand as my tribute to him, and how fitting it is to have him playing with me on it.

Thanks for posting it, Charles.

Mike, that is stunning. I don't know what more to say.
Just so I get it straight:
You play verse and chorus 1
John plays verse and chorus 2
Then there's a fiddle solo
Then you play verse and chorus 3.
I am asking for this clarification because, to my ears, you captured the Hughey sound so closely that I am having trouble keeping the 2 apart.
Mike, again, a beautifully played and presented song.
Thanks!
Bent

Mike, I sang that song at my oldest brothers funeral.
Its hard for me to listen to it without weeping.
This is the most beautiful version I've ever heard.

What Bent said... stunning. The slow stuff is to me where the feeling and emotion for steel emerges from the players heart .

I want to thank all of you for listening and for your kind words.

Bent, yes the arrangement is as you mentioned. That version is from a CD titled "Up To The Gills" and John played with me on three of the songs. I was for sure in a Hughey frame of mind when I cut the CD. On "Go Rest High", a closer listen will reveal a light chorus when I am playing. I did this to better clarify when John or I was playing. I must say that in my opinion, clarification was acheived by John without without even trying. The man had sheer power in his hands. He was amazing to say the least.

Mike,
I'm getting shivers up my spine just to read this.

Sheer power in his hands...wow what a neat thing to say. The two of you sure compliment each other.
