DVD to Save in a file for uploading?

Post by Al Marcus »

Hi guys, I know there is a lot of experts on Uploading a DVD to YouTube. How do you do it? I have a few Videos made with my VCR Camera a few years ago, and now I have copied them over to DVD, so I am half way there.
BUT How do I get them from the DVD to in the computer and save them in a file with a name so I can hit Browse On YOuTube and select the tune I want, to upload?
I did these with my Sho-bud Super Pro D10, when I used to winter in Florida. With my small Crate Amp, I have had for 22 years. "A Few of the Good Old Songs". I would appreciate it. Maybe this should be in Recording...thanks..al.:):) :D

Hi Al. I'm not for sure but if you have the Windows Movie Maker on your computer...that program does create videos but you may also need a program that will transfer the DVD into a file. My friend Susan Trujillo said there is a program called Sonic that can put a DVD into a file. I'll do some checking around and see if I can find out anything more. John McGlothlin

Al, I was reading up on the Windows Movie Maker and there is info on capuring video and audio by means of connecting a video device such as a DVD player or camera to the computer and then playing it and recording the video and storing it in a file to be used. I don't know what make of computer you have but most computers come with the Windows Movie Maker and the newer computers have some type of DVD program.

Al,

A couple of years ago I had the same question.

The advice I took and works great for me was buying a software program on-line called "Magic DVD Ripper"
I don't remember exactly how much it cost, but I think it was around $30 or $40.

If you go that route, once it's installed on your computer indicate you want to convert it to WMV, Windows Media Video, and perhaps save it to a file on your computer you've designated for YouTube files, so it will be easy to find when loading your videos to Youtube.

Someone might also know of a program that can work that doesn't cost as much money.

If none of this works for you, you can mail me a DVD with your videos on them, and I'll convert them to WMV and send them back on a disc for you. I haven't tried this before, but it sounds like it could work.

Good luck.

3 place the DVD in you dvd player on your computer..
4 on the program interface select ADD VIDEO...
5 navigate to your dvd drive and open VIDEO_TS folder
and look for a file named VOB.. there may be more then one.. select the biggest size..VTS_01_1 ?????kb Vob file...
6 To the right and near the of the interface select
FLASH VIDEO MOVIE from the PROFILE menu...
7 Now go to the ENCODE button and hit...
* make a cut of tea or coffee and wait for it to be encoded.........some time later you will get a message ENCODE FINISHED...
8 go to FILE at the top of the interface to the left.. and select OPEN OUTPUT FOLDER..there you will find the finished FLV ,, this is now ready to upload to YOUTUBE......
The folder can be found in My Docuements/Any Video Converter/flv folder........

Al,
I have converted and uploaded over 100 videos to YouTube.

I purchased (about $50) a product by Pinnacle called a "Dazzle"

It is simple to use and plugs into a USB port and then to your video source via RCA cables.

You can either use the enclosed software or in my case, I use Windows Movie Maker to do my editing and add titles.

The main thing I like about this product is that it does not get the audio/video out of sync.

A lot of the video's that I watch are not together and it drives me crazy.

Hope this helps,
Bill Ferguson

Al, I take it that you already have a DVD with the video you want to convert to Youtube, if so you don't need to copy the video to your hadrdrive, the program will import them as Flv to the computer from the DVD, also keep in mind that you can only upload 10 minuets of video to youtube at a time, the smaller in size the quicker they will upload therefore the Flv is the smallest size you can make as this is what is used by Youtube..

Have another go at the above as this will work..John

Al, thanks for this post. I have been wondering how to do this also. John, I downloaded the software that you recommended. I am going to have a go at it and see how it goes.
I also have another question about youtube videos. Is there a way to put some of your favorite ones on a DVD to keep for yourself to watch or show others. I know someone that wanted to see a certain youtube video that does not have a computer, and I was not sure how to put it on DVD to show them

Jack, To put Utube on to DVD you need to convert them to Mpeg 2, but as the quality is not great on the Utube videos it not worth it, what you can do is to copy the Flv files on to CD and your friends can watch them on there computer as long as they have a Flv player installed, there are many such players on the net for free. or take your laptop if you got one..

Al, I am a little confused, is it a proper dvd or is it a dvd with the video files copied to it?
If it's a proper dvd then the above instructions will work..
if it a dvd with the video files copied to it then you only need to open the dvd so that you can see whats on it.... then you can select any video and drag it on to you hard drive and upload them to youtube..
go to My Computer and look for your dvd drive and right click on it , select OPEN you can now see what is on the DVD... when you have done this let me know what you see on the DVD and we can take it from there...

Al,
Put the DVD in the computer, and you should get this on your screen:

Image

If it doesn't come up, left click on 'My Computer, then left click on your 'D' drive, and left click on 'Open'

When you have the box that I have shown, left click on 'Open folder to view files', then left click 'OK'.

The next thing you should see will be this:

Image

Double left click on 'VIDEO_TS'

This box should appear:

Image

Left click 'Add Video'

This box should appear:

Image

Navigate to 'My Computer, if it isn't already on that, and then left click on your 'D' drive

This box should appear:

Image

Left click on 'VIDEO_TS'

This box should appear:

Image

Left click on 'VTS_01_1.VOB'

This should appear:

Image

Press 'Open'

This box should appear (after a few seconds):

Image

Press 'Profile' and select 'Customised WMV video'
Press 'Encode', and you should see it encoding:

Image

Edited to add the 'Profile' parameter

Richard-thanks for giving me such a good view of what I can do and expect. I will try that out for sure.

John-I can play the film and the sound on WMP and it shows the playlist of all the chapters and tracks. I can also play the songs without the Video on WMP , Without the DVD in the drive. So the Sound loaded but not the video.

I am going to again try the same program that you gave me and Richard gave some tips on it. I must thank both of you for helping me out. This Forum is sure a wonderful place to be.....al:) :D :D 8)

John and Richard- Thanks for your help , the screens helped too. I did it! Got all the videos in my "Documents" Folder.

I left it on during the night and it took a few hours to get them all encoded. There is over 18 videos on it.
Some at the end I used for Ray in Florida, who wanted to learn more C6 stuff. So there is talking along with playing on some 3 of his own guitars. I explain the pedals and what they do and show the sound they get. If you want to get into C6, you might be interested in that.
I played them all, as you can see, on one take, no overdubs, so forgive the flubs once in a while.

ONE PROBLEM-Before I put them on YouTube, How can I Split and separate each song .There is some space between them. Is there a program that I can use to do that.?
You members on the Forum have come up with solutions on so many things before, so I am sure you have one. Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving to all.

I am thankful to b0b and all the members who have supported this Forum. It is the place to be for Steel players, playing the most versatile musical instrument in the world....Have a good day today...al. :) :) :D :D 8)

Al, here is one...
http://www.geovid.com/download/vidsplitter.exe

and this to help you upload..
http://www.lafcpug.org/Tutorials/basic_you_tube.html

in the program you will need to select custom and then in video settings seclect XviD MPEG-4 Codec, and the size 320 x 240 ..this is the best way....on the timeline , run the video on windows media player and make a note of the time the first clip ends , this will help you to move the in and out on the splitter program... shout if you need more help John

Al, when you upload the video you can name it to whatever you want and add tab's to it so that anyone looking for steel guitar or country music can find it ,
you could tab for example ... Pedal steel giutar, Al Marcus, etc, etc, always put a comma after each tab...
