Thanks everyone for listening and for your nice comments - I'm glad you enjoyed it! 
Jamie - the B tuning is like open D (DADF#AD, low to high) but tuned down to B (so, BF#BD#F#B). I had a .070 gauge 6th string on this recording. Currently the baritone is strung with a .076 6th string for A tuning (same format), but the high strings (I use the same gauges on the top 5 in both B and A) sing better in the B tuning, while the bass is fantastic in A. I may try a .072 or something and tune to B flat for the best of both worlds.

Thanks Brad, and no, you're right about the baker!  I wrote this tune about two years ago in the downward slope of a slowly but surely failing marriage. I remember arriving at the Aachen (Germany) train station early in the morning (we had slept in the waiting room at a Belgian small town train station) and how nice it was to have a good German sandwich and a coffee after an uncomfortable night with little sleep. The guy in the bakery/café was in a very jolly mood, but the song was more about myself of course.

Brad made the point I was going to make about the dour baker but all kidding aside, I really admire the way you are continually forging ahead with a touch, tone and artistic direction that's truly yours and reflects your unique cosmopolitan experiences. With so many in the steel community content to do their version of sleepwalk, play the top 20 Hawaiian favorites, or demonstrate how you can pull, slant, slide and play harmonics with your nose at the same time, an original voice like yours is continually refreshing to hear. The power of a strong melody is always in vogue. Keep trodding your own path, Fred. It's a good path. |

Fred, that's some great truly original and unique stuff.
Very refreshing - and very listenable!
I too, was wondering about the jolliness of the baker - so I'm glad you cleared that up.
Andy, I've never played harmonics with my nose. 
I'll have to give that a try . .
